My brother is about to become a father - well in August. I want to give him a book as a pressie - something with useful advice / bit of humour about being a dad.

Had a quick look on Amazon but of course impossible to see what they are like. Any suggestions ?

Thanks

Someone wrote a review for our NCT newsletter recently recommending 'The Truth About Babies' by Iam Sansom.

She says in the review that she looked for a book on fatherhood to give to her DH whilst she was pg but didn't find anything but that this would have been perfect.

It gets good reviews on Amazon too - and is half price there, just a fiver.

Oh there was a lovely book I bought ex DH when I was pregnant but I can't remember what it's called. It was various pieces of writing by men about fatherhood. I can remember a piece by Tony Parsons (before he wrote his novels) in it but I can't remember who else or the title, so probably not much help. It was great though, I'll see if I can find it on Amazon.

I bought 'So You're Going to be a Father' by an Australian guy that I can't remember the name of. I also lent it to a friend at working whose wife was expecting. Dp and friend both said it did have some practical advice in there and it was comical as well. I've just had a hunt round for it but it looks like I ditched it when I last decluttered. Always the same I get carried away decluttering and always find I need something straight after.

If he's interested in learning more about babies, a good book is 'How Babies Think' - Alison Gopnik and others. My DH really enjoyed it.

A reviewer on Amazon said,

'All parents should read this...It is not a guide to 'making your baby into a genius' but rather an examination of the thought processes of young children. Written with humour and clear explanations, this makes easy but not superficial reading.'

HTH.

I bought a couple for my husband and my brother who were both due to be fathers around the same time. One for during pregnancy called

'You're pregnant too mate'

can't remember who that is by and can't put my hand to it immediately brilliant - funny but insightful from a man's point of view. I think I got that one from Waterstones.

One I bought my husband a couple for christmas but they are more a parent ones but very very funny called....

Baby's little instruction book by David Brawn I laughed until I cried over some of the ideas.

The other was The parent's survival handbook by Rohan Candappa

Both about £3.99 and I got them from WHSmith

The other one we found useful was Babies by Dr Chris Green (?) I think ... very practical but in an interesting and amusing way.

Hope that helped

Thanks for all your suggestions. I've had a look at Amazon and knowing my brothers sense of humour am going for "You're pregnant too mate" and also the "The truth about babies" which sounds quite lyrical (only a fiver).

Thanks for the kind offer Megg but this is my brothers birthday pressie so better buy him something new, otherwise he'll think I've got even tighter..
