If I said "Bothy Blanket" would you know what I meant? And if so, do you know where I could buy some?

sorry, never heard of it!

uberalice · 02/10/2008 08:08

Errm ... a blanket you would use in a bothy? Is it a snug, wollen tartan thing by any chance? Clearly I don't know the answer.

cali · 02/10/2008 08:33

Is it this

or is it something you actually need to use if you are staying in a bothy?

notpregyet · 02/10/2008 08:36

Do you mean a 'travel rug'? If so, i'd try googling for edinburgh woolen mill, pringle of scotland, pitlochry knitwear etc...

squeaver · 02/10/2008 08:42

Well I know what a bothy is and I know what a blanket together so I suspect it's a blanket which magically transforms itself into a bothy when you're stuck on the side of a hill.

[sherlock emoticon]

I'd try that purveyor of all tat things Scottish, the Edinburgh Woollen Mill

MrsMuddle · 02/10/2008 09:41

Is it like a bivvy (sp?) bag? I've just had to buy one for DS. It's a big waterproof sleeping bag that you sleep in in your normal sleeping bag. But could be used in bothies too.

Gulp - cali - something like that only cheaper! When I was a student about a million years ago the St Andrews Woolen Mill sold these lovely blankets that were made up of odds and ends of yarn. They were shades of brown and grey, incredibly warm and very cheap. They were called Bothy blankets - and I am pining for one now (mine have all got lost over the years.) I tried several branches of the Edinburgh Woolen mill in Scotland in the summer, but they all looked down their snooty noses at me and denied all knowledge of anything so common!

Thanks all - will keep hunting. I might even ring the St Andrews Woolen Mill!

I was a bit shocked at the price too!

Can't believe the Edinburgh Woolen Mill, after all the example I found is probably a lot more expensive than the lovely picnic rugs that they sell.

PurpleFrog · 10/10/2008 10:12

I'm afraid the St Andrews woollen mill no longer exists .....
