How safe is a carseat on a rearfacing adult car seat?

I know a baby carrier seat always needs to be rear-facing and there's been lot of discussion about keeping children's car seats rear facing til they're older/heavier, so would it be safer to use a usually forward facing stage 1 (9kg +) seat, such as Britax duo, on a seat which faces backwards (our new people carrier has seat which can be moved to be forward or rearing facing)?

I would put them in the seat that doesn't move, sorry not much help!

check with the specific seat - our new Stage 1 one said specifically it is is safe on a forward or rear-facing seat but NOT on a sideways facing one.

Generally it is safer for anyone, child or not, to be facing backwards in a crash as the rapid deceleration will throw you back against the seat rather than forwards out of it.

Some people get horribly carsick facing backwards though...

There is always the option of using seats forward facing as normal, but wondered if rear facing would be safer, but can't seem to find any info on it?

I have just bought a Britax Eclipse rear facing car seat. They're pretty hard to find online, just looked and couldn't find a link. I bought it from the incarsafetycentre in Milton Keynes. They were FANTASTIC.

There's a good thread about thsi, I'll have a look and link to it.

thread here. It's worth having a read through, there's some phone numbers on there, one of which is a lady in Essex who I spoke to, she REALLY knows her stuff. Am sure she'd be happy to advise you. Think her name was Kathy. HTH

familygirl · 30/09/2008 11:48

No, but just had a look on incarsafety website though. Will also have a look at our current car seat instructions again to see what I can find as well all the inf from the thread-thanks.
