I have just bought my 7th bed , if you include cots and I have 2 boys aged 10 and 12.
Cot No1 for DS1.
Cot No2 for DS2 who came along when it was too soon for DS1 to progress to a bed and I didn't want the new baby to "steal his cot".
Bed No1. DS1's first bed .I bought the cheapest single bed on the market in the sure knowledge that it would get wee on it.I was right about that.
Bed No2. DS2's first bed. Bought a wooden frame bed and mattress with the idea that we could just buy a new mattress if necessary.
Bed No3. When DS1 was dry and I was giving his room a makeover i bought one of those high beds with a desk beneath. This was a pain in the neck from day one. I had to climb up and scrabble about trying to change the bedding while banging my head on the ceiling.
Bed No4. DS1 now 12 years old, five feet ten and still growing......got rid of the high bed and bought him a double.
Bed No5. In the interest of sibling harmony and because I knew he would need it soon anyway I have just bought DS2 a wood frame double bed.
Of all the originals I have just kept the wooden single bed for the spare room.
Lesson learned?
I wish now that I had not bothered with single beds and gone straight for wooden doubles. It's easy enough to just replace the mattress and when they were little I could have crawled in with them for bedtime story, instead of perching on the edge.
