FFS- HOW on earth is anyone supposed to choose a buggy/travel system from all the thousands available? HELP!!!!

EachPeachPearMum · 27/09/2008 22:14

My head is exploding!
How am I supposed to have an opinion on the seemingly endless, yet remarkably similar varieties of buggy/pushchair/travel systems available?

I need a new one- am due in January, and DD's has completely disintegrated now, after a lot of use (cannot fold up anymore, so basically useless if we want to go out for the day)

She will be almost 3 when DS is born, so don't want a twin/double, as she walks most places anyway.

The only thing I actually have an opinion on is I would like a rear-facing option for pushchair this time, as I loved having DD face me when she was in her car seat.

Help!

have you looked at hauck infinity?! I know everyone is going to say Bugaboo...but shoot me down in flames..but you see these everywhere! I would def get a rear facing if i ever had dc4!

you need to think what you will use it for, do you walk much? use public transport or drive mostly? what is your budget? etc,

EachPeachPearMum · 27/09/2008 22:36

pmsl- I would prob never get a bugaboo- I am the opposite of a label whore!

I have seen infinity, but am worried that you have to remove the seat to fold it down to get in the car- kind of impractical!

For the first year, will walk every day, probably 3 or 4 times a day (nursery drop-off, shopping, etc). Public transport- very little use.
Budget- not my main concern- I just need something that works for us!

ah see i hadn't considered the folding im afraid, as i don't drive, the pushchair remains up constantly in our hallway which is fortunately large!! We have an umbrella fold in the boot (rarely used!)

EachPeachPearMum · 27/09/2008 23:02

I would like to have just one buggy/travel system, as there is just no room in my home for more than one!

You need a Micralite Toro imho...

EachPeachPearMum · 29/09/2008 13:02

It's only forward facing though, for the buggy, so doesn't meet the only criteria I have

What about the Luna?

misdee · 29/09/2008 13:06

whats your life style like?

how much room to store?

does it have to fit in a small car boot?

whats your budget?

and btw, most buggies that rear face have to remove the seat to fold.

i did loads of research before ds2 was born in feb this year. ended up with a jane carrera pro which met most of my criteria, lightweight, not a horrible colour, travel system etc. i was just remarking the other day to dp that although it does look quite nice (other than not being washable and therefore having bits of chewed bread stick stuck all over it), its NOWHERE NEAR AS GOOD as the £100 graco i had for ds1 7 years ago. and in fact this morning i was looknig longingly in mothercare at some little cheapish nippy 3 wheel stroller things which suddenly seem v appealing....

chipmunkswhereareyou · 29/09/2008 14:15

The toro faces both ways I think - it's the Fastfold that doesn't.

misdee · 29/09/2008 14:16

toro doesnt face both ways,

chipmunkswhereareyou · 29/09/2008 14:23

Sorry - my mistake...

Blush
misdee · 29/09/2008 14:37

lol dont be if it did rearface it would be my fave pram, as i lvoed the fastfold.

lillypie · 29/09/2008 14:44

What about this one?

I don't have any experience of this model but I have had an urban detour previously and loved it.

the loola is backbreaking to lift in and out of the car though. and once baby gets bigger, its very hard to manovre up kerbs as well. but i do like how it folds witht he seat in any position.

quinny buzz rearfaces, but only semi-reclined rearfacing ro lie flat, no upright position.

if you are feeling brave theh try the stokke xplory

bugaboo is another, the cameleon or the bee. the bee is smaller and lighter and is a once peice fold facing either way.

out n about nipabout.

if you want6 rearfacing for the first few months only then look at the pramette style buggies by mamas and papas (pliko) and silvercross (3d)

Fadge · 29/09/2008 15:05

M&P Pliko is a bugger to get up kerbs and painful to push with those awful twisted in handles imo! Heavy too.

Shame the Inifity is a no go for you though, would it really be that much of a hassle with the folding because it's a dream pushchair.

EachPeachPearMum · 29/09/2008 15:59

Hey! All the buggy people come out to play in the week!
Stokke- nooooo, too weirdy for us.
Lifestyle:
We live in a city- so plenty of walking/shopping locally, and car travel.
Currently have a teeny tiny hatchback, though this may well be changed (prob to Xsara Picasso) in feb/march as we won't fit 2 children, 2 parents, and a granny in our current car!
No storage space! LOL- We have no hall, so buggy tends to be left fully up in the front room or dining room depending on what we're up to.
I really want rear-facing for longer than a couple of months, and I am not prepared to keep lo in a carseat to do that, as my DD had plagio, so want to avoid carseat as much as possible.
I do still have the carseat from DD- and it is in really good condition, so not an absolute vital need, though obviously, it's nice to have matching!
Imnotok - I was actualy considering the one you linked to- but the 4 wheel version, not 3- it looks quite good, though not sure about colours!
Are Mothercare prams any good?

OP posts:
misdee · 29/09/2008 16:32

some mothercare prams are made by the same people who make graco's. which are popular but not that great IMO.
havent tried the new ones though, and they do look good in store.

lillypie · 29/09/2008 16:53

I seem to remember these being popular on another thread.

Fadge · 29/09/2008 18:18

Have you looked at Britax Vigour?
