Do I cave in and get a double buggy? Dd 3.5 and ds 18 months and my back is KILLING me.....

I've been managing with a quinny zapp and ergo sling but I have a bad back and ds is getting very heavy in the sling, especially as he won't keep still in it and constantly writhes around and pulls my hair. Dd can walk reasonable distances but sometimes not as far as I want to go (i'll often walk for an hour each way to get somewhere).

A buggy board won't fit the zapp, unfortunately.

I'm wondering whether to get a double buggy but they are so expensive and it'd need to be OK to push without making my back even worse. Or maybe I should get a maclaren single buggy and a buggy board. Anyone know of a light-ish, easy to push double for two toddlers???

TIA

I would really recommend the Out'n'about instep nipper 360.

At the moment dd and ds2 sit in and ds1 rides on the front. It is bulky but is fantastically light to push.

Agree that buggy board is not a good idea over distance with a bad back.

feeble · 25/09/2008 14:21

buggy pod not suitable sorry
will check strolli rider

feeble · 25/09/2008 14:28

Sorry I cant find any info on that you would have to ring
I have a mothercare 3 wheeler and my 4 yr old hitches a ride on the front or stands on the back of the shopping basket so its like a buggy board but in front of the hood.

www.mothercare.com/gp/product/B000IESW1C/sr=1-2/qid=1222349270/ref=sr_1_2/203-6222477-7943103?ie=UTF 8&m=A2LBKNDJ2KZUGQ&n=42805041&mcb=core

Heavy to put in and out the car but very large seat so fit in it for ages and you can push it with 1 finger with both of them on it.

Does dd have a light weight scooter and would she use it long distances ? DD uses hers all the time and for quite long distances and so haven't had need of a buggy for about a year (that said, there aren't many hills where I live and I don't have to contend with a buggy as well which may make a difference).

A friend of mine has a seat like a bike which attaches to her buggy so her ds doesn't have to stand. She finds it works better thana buggy board.

I was going to ask you what sling it was you used (was it the ergo you were using when ds was little - when we last met up ?) ? I always remembered it looked like a comfy one for both parties and as I shall be considering one early next year (all being well) was starting to do some research.

I caved in and got an out 'n' about nipper 360 double www.babyworld.co.uk/information/reviews/product.asp?id=473
and I have to say it is the best purchase I ever made. My tall 4.5 year old still fits in it and it means that we can walk alot further and don't use the car much at all.

chloemegjess · 25/09/2008 16:45

Wheelybug. I would be interested to know more about that seat that attaches to the buggy. In april I will have a newborn and 15month old. I have a double bugy already but not suitable till about 3 months and was going to have to get another one just for those first 3 months which is annoying. The seat would be good. DD although she will only be 15months, she is already very sturdy and nearly walking now at almost 9 months

cmotdibbler · 25/09/2008 16:48

Maybe a better sling ? I have ToddlerHawk MeiTais, and carry my 2.3 year old a lot with no problems at all - much better positioning than with an Ergo for heavy toddlers

MrsCurly · 25/09/2008 16:54

Liath,

I am in Glasgow and I have a Out 'n About Nipper double. It is fantastic and very comfortable to push. The only downside is it is quite cumbersome and fiddly to fold down.

My girls have outgrown it, so do let me know if you are interested.

soph28 · 25/09/2008 17:08

I haven't found any of the maclaren doubles easy to push. Oushing a buggy board is a killer. You have to lean in a hunched forward position- not easy at all.

I have a mountain double but wouldn't really recommend it as it's far too big when folded and hard to move. When up it is very light and easy to push. ATM I use a maxi-cosi mura single buggy for dd2 who is almost 5mths, I usually carry dd1 (2) at the same time and ds who is 3.5 walks. I can attatch a buggy board as well which is why I bought a buggy with an extendable handlebar.

DS is rubbish at walking and there is no way we could do the 2 mile uphill walk to nursery and back every day. He has a Scoot bike (like a like-a-bike) which is great and means we can go for longer walks in parks etc if I take the MB but his nursery have said I can't leave it there so if we walked I would have to carry it home and back again with the double buggy.

Liath I bought at Phil & Teds about a year ago and it changed my life - they are sooooo wonderful

liath · 25/09/2008 19:50

Thanks again.

A day out in Edinburgh zoo with my sister and her buggy board has convinced me this is NOT the way to go (although at one point my sister was rather heroically pushing her ds2 with ds1 and my dd both on the buggy board up a very steep hill ). My back hurt just watching .

Wheelybug, the scooter idea is a good one as I cut through the park a lot & it'd be safe enough there. Do I take it congratulations are in order??? That is really wonderful news . Yes, it's the ergo I have and is has been great until now. It's as much ds's wriggling as the weight that's the problem.

Mrscurly - thanks for the offer, I'll have a chat to dh about finances. It's a tricky one as dd really does walk well but there's the odd time where I'd kill for a double. Maybe a scooter is the answer....

Same here....currently, DD1, just 3, in buggy, DD2 (11mths, at least 26lbs) on back. Going to be able to keep that up physically until next summer I think, but DD2 may have other ideas. I walk long distances to get places and the roads around where I live are incredibly busy so need DD1 in/ on something. Going to investigate best pram for buggyboard.

Wheelybug · 25/09/2008 22:15

Yes, Liath, at long last !

If you're thinking of a scooter - get a really light weight one/ one that folds so it can at least be folded or leant over the buggy when not being used.

TheBlonde · 26/09/2008 07:55

The scooters are quite good - I finally caved and got DS a micro one

liath · 26/09/2008 17:33

Well as luck would have it when I dropped the kids off at nursery someone had pinned an advert for a well-used P&T at a good price so if it looks OK when I see it then it's ours! AND dd's christmas present solved too with a scooter . Thanks everyone. Fingers crossed this sorts my back out......

Liath, hope it works out, i love my p&t and it transformed getting out and about with my boys its so handy when ds2 who's 2.9yrs is tired and so easy to push.

liath · 26/09/2008 19:16

Cheers, nicola .
