Ideally not horrifically expensive, but he really really likes puddles and I'm dreadng the winter without them. Not in any of the usual high street shops and don't know where to go! Would prefer some that you can put over trousers and that seal the wellies.

Would be great to know if you reckon they come up big or small etc too.

Tchibo had dungarees a few weeks back -any good?

ClosedForCleaning · 09/09/2008 16:09

Not cheap, but Togz dungarees are fantastic. They're pretty roomy. 2yr old likely to get second year out of 12-18th size and 4yr old another winter from 3/4yr size.

myredcardigan · 09/09/2008 16:16

I agree with closedforcleaning. Togz are fantastic and although quite pricey, do far longer than the age printed. My reasonably tall 4yr old has just grown out of his 2-3yr ones though can still wear them with long wellies.

He got them at 18mths and we just used the velcro straps to keep them tight enough when he was that little. So he's hada lot of wear from them and they're still in good enough condition for me to pass on to my other two!

I just got some today for ds from Trespass (have one in Newcastle, don't know how common they are) they were £9.95, seem pretty ok. I got him size 2/3 as he is 20 months, they will probably be huge on him but they can be rolled up

tomkitten · 09/09/2008 16:26

Again - not cheap - but we find the
muddy puddle waterproofs really good - and they last
for ever if you follow their sizing guidelines. DC's first muddy puddle waterproof lasted from age 2-4.5, second from 4.5-7.5 and we've just started on the 3rd...

Sycamoretree · 09/09/2008 16:40

H&M have got them in now - they are great. They are like fireman's dungarees really - high waisted with shoulder straps and some reflective material stripe at the bottom - and they are padded, so nice and warm (but maybe not ideal for putting over jeans etc). They are about £14.99 - I bought some for my DS for romping round freezing cold non summer wet garden.

bumbling · 10/09/2008 07:55

All brilliant, thanks so much. Will check them out. Much appreciated everyone.

the H&M ones are fantastic. I bought dd's in Sweden last year when our summer holiday became a washout.

I bought 3-4yrs even tho she was only 20m as they are elasticated at all cuffs and the trousers are bib&brace so plenty of growing room.

They have an elastic "retainer" at the ankle to hook around wellies.

So far dd has worn them to 2 festivals as well as the usual autumn/winter/spring muddy outdoor stuff.

She's coming up to 3yrs and this outfit will see her thru to next Spring I think.

SammyC · 10/09/2008 09:40

I got my 2 muddy puddles from ebay, there are 2 different types shower proof and then the full on rain protection, I would recommend trying ebay for the togz or muddy puddles!

NorbertDentressangle · 10/09/2008 09:44

DS has some Tchibo ones which are great -they are dungaree style with elasticated braces and stirrup bits under the foot to keep them in place.

The seams are also proper sealed ones, rather than stitched so are completely watertight.

I'm not sure how things work with Tchibo though (whether you can order stuff they've sold in the past?) as I just happened to see them on the weekly changing shelves in Somerfield.

Does anyone have any comments on Harry Hurricane or Bushbaby dungarees? Just as a matter of interest cos I'm steering towards the Muddy puddles or Togz but would like a few more ideas!

I picked up a pair of dungas yesterday in Kiddicare (Bush Baby - label said 2 years) and they seemed way too skinny for my DS (20months) He's not fat at all - a bit chunky but fits all normal 18-24mo clothing, but theres no way he'd have been able to wear them comfortably with trousers underneath.

I just need to make sure they're roomy enough to haul on over his clothes without making him superhot and light enough to not restrict his movement too much

ShePeeTeePee · 26/10/2008 10:11

Togz, Togz, Togz dungarees. If you can afford them without sacrificing rent, food or mortgage, you can't beat 'em. Baggy enough to go on easily over clothes or nappies, and can be adjusted to fit neatly in all the right places with velcro tabs. Material is soft and pliable and nothing gets through them.

nappyaddict · 26/10/2008 10:12

muddy puddles are fab.

ShePeeTeePee · 26/10/2008 10:17

I challenge everyone to a puddle sit. Let's see whose DC gets a wet bum first.

Actually, my DS spends all day with a wet bum anyway.

In conclusion: save your money or buy yourself something nice.
