Pram seat for toting a toddler around?

LackaDAISYcal · 02/09/2008 20:26

Has anyone used anything like one of these

My sister had one years ago for my DN1 when DN2 was born, but it was on a big, solid carriage built pram. I am having a pram dilemma as I can't sell my Hauck Infinity lookeylikey and don't want to bring another pram into the house as DH will go spare......so the alternative is one of these over the carrycot bit of the Hauck, but I'm not sure how sturdy it will be. There is a metal frame, but the sides of the pram seem pretty soft.

Any comments would be much appreciated

Mine are 3, 2 and 4 mths and I wish I had got a P+T's. Have any of you seen the new Buggypod Smorph? It's very cool and I'm seriously tempted, then I can keep on using my single buggy for dd2.

I'll try and get a link, hang on...

pgwithnumber3 · 03/09/2008 21:33

I started a thread for the Buggypod last week Soph but no-one replied. Have read differing reviews on them though.

soph28 · 03/09/2008 21:36

buggypod smorph

soph28 · 03/09/2008 21:37

missed that one, I only just saw them the other day. The new version looks a lot better than the original buggypod. I like how they fold up.

soph28 · 03/09/2008 21:38

What have you read that isn't so good?

Lastyearsmodel · 03/09/2008 21:39

Just to add my two-pence-worth... Friend had the Baby Dan seat - not that secure, used to slide a little when she went up a kerb (her DD 2 but not huge) and it was winter so DD quite cold and couldn't sleep in it. She ended up buying the i-candy and loves it.
Me? I carried DS in a sling (and still do sometimes) but I went for the second hand Bertini with toddler seat for longer trips. Not v glam but v effective. DD loves sitting up high and DS now 6mo can sit up as he would have done in a pram.
You need it for such a short time but it's so vital for those few months.
Thinking of progressing to a buggyboard now.

soph28 · 03/09/2008 21:42

I'm sure you're right. They'll bring out a twin bugaboo in a year or so. I bought the First Wheels as it was the closest to it I could find. It's a nice buggy but the quality is rubbish. I've also got a dbl MB which is great, sturdy and very light weight but so awkward to transport and move around when folded. I've used a dble umbrella buggy like a Maclaren but they are really difficult to push and steer- impossible to steer one handed.

Can't remember the website soph which had reviews of it and the majority of the people said that the concept was great but the reality was different! Will try to find it.

What's a MB?

Thanks lastyearsmodel, that is handy to know. I don't think the Babydan seat would be a long term solution but probably handy for the first few weeks so I could decide which pram to get.

I have a buggyboard but doubt at 17 months DD2 would be okay on it.

pgwithnumber3 · 03/09/2008 21:48

Had a good look/fiddle with the Icandy Pear in John Lewis but the seats are TINY! DD2 is only a little dot but even she was huge in it and she is not yet 12 months. Also couldn't be bothered dismantling that every morning/afternoon on the school run. I would end up leaving it in someone's garden in frustration.

LackaDAISYcal · 03/09/2008 21:58

aaargh my post disappeared.

I had read some bad reviews of the smorph as well...main one that it lurches a bit going up and down kerbs in an alarming fashion and that it doesn't recline (but then again neither would the babydan seat). Main review was that it was OK for short journeys but not as a long term thing.

I refuse to buy an Icandy whatchamacallit as the names of them are just too fecking poncey (and clever) for my liking and the ones with the holder for your iPod are just well........unneccesary

Lacks, I notice on your profile (your family are gorgeous btw!) that you are a structural engineer - can you not, well, rustle up something up, you know, make my Bugaboo a twin!

LackaDAISYcal · 03/09/2008 22:26

pmsl PGNo3 ...that would be a mechanical engineer really, although the basic principles are the same!

I'm more on the building side so could tell you how much strengthening your floor would need to support your new hastily rehashed carefully constructed twin bugaboo

and thanks for the comments on the DCS....DH and I often wonder how two gompers like us produced such beautiful children. I'm a bit worried we can't pull it off again though!

pgwithnumber3 · 03/09/2008 22:31

Ahh, yes a structural engineer, we had one of those when we knocked down a few walls! Oh well, an engineer is an engineer to me! How do you find working in such a male dominated field?

I am going to buy a second Bugaboo seat off ebay and then make a widget out of a wire coat hanger for it to fix on to the Bugaboo frame - voila!

When I tried out the P&T though they pushed really well. Right that is IT, mind set, I am getting one.

Problem is, should I get a Vibe or the Sport or wait until the Dash comes out...

pgwithnumber3 · 03/09/2008 22:33

LMAO about the gompers producing lovely children, you aren't a gomper! You are lovely!

My two are really cute, I too wonder if I will be struck with the ugly stick with DC3.

MatNanPlus · 03/09/2008 22:38

Get the P&T Sport fab pushchair.

FirstWheels City Twin is the bugaboo twin equivilent

LackaDAISYcal · 03/09/2008 22:38

aw shucks

DH is handsome, in a preppy sort of way. He looked like a cross between David Baddiel (in his younger more handsome days) and Anthony Edwards (Dr Green in ER) when I first met him.

I think I'm going for the P&T; the baby looks like it will be really cosy, especially in the cocoon as well, considering it will be winter. DH likes it as well, as it's quite a manly looking contraption.

I swear I'll be dreaming about buggies soon!

on that note...am off to bed.

MatNanPlus · 03/09/2008 22:38

but wide and no good when toddler is walking so P&T ticks all the boxes.

LackaDAISYcal · 03/09/2008 22:39

thanks MNP

Good night Lacks, don't wake up in a cold sweat trying to get the doubles kit off it whilst tackling a toddler and newborn and stopping a 6 year old playing chicken with the busy traffic... Can you tell that is my nightmare?!
