I was debating whether to get a P&T of Powertwin when pg with ds2. In the end I went to Mothercare and tried ds1(2.5) out (with imaginary baby) in the P&T, then took him to John Lewis and tried him in the Powertwin. In the Powertwin he sat in the front and his legs were either dangling all over the front wheel, or if he was resting them on the footrest his knees were up round his ears. He was NOT comfortable at all. I was also unimpressed with how easily he pulled the hood off.

Would definately recommend you try them out first.

Nemoandthefishes · 27/08/2008 09:00

I have a P+T
I have a 12mth age gap and bought a second hand P+T when DD2 was 2mths old so DD1 was 14mths. It is by far THE best pram I have had. I actually bought a brand new one earlier this year as I still use it quite often even though DDs are 2.7yrs and 19mths. I am also TTC no.4 so it will hopefully be getting used for a long time.

Back of power twin goes almost horzontal..fine for a newborn. Fron reclines to about 45 degrees Id say.

Another nice feature of Jane is that if toddler is pottering about, you can click the front bar off and drop the back of the front seat all the forward ...baby in back gets full forward view.

hana · 27/08/2008 13:53

I never used the hood in the front seat unless it was raining, just took it off completely. gave a bit more room as well

elmoandella · 27/08/2008 14:13

powertwin vote here.

wheels pop off really easy. i fit it in my 207 along with a maclaren.

i too pop off the front hood unless it's raining.

also, you dont really need the raincover. the footmuffs reach further up than the hood comes down, and they are huge. toddlers have loadsa room in them. my kids are both big and have plenty of room in them

it is easier to steer with smallest one in front. but as long as you keep tyres pumped up it's fine with older one in front.

without hood one my 2 play with each other and share snacks and play daft peek a bo games.

the front reclines plenty for sleeping in front. but when you have the bar on and footmuff folded over i often find my lo's fall asleep with their heads on this.

when you have car seat on front the hood meets the car seat hood so that you can see lo without older one in the back touching.

but you can also put car seat on the back if your older one likes to really bug the younger.

my lo's liked when older one was in the back and he could pull faces at younger one facing him in car seat.

the materials are also fantastic. wipe clean, i've had mine a year and i've never needed to put in washing machine. just a quick wipe down with a baby wipe and it looks like new.

also get a surfer board, or and older one can hitch hike on the front footrest.

elmoandella · 27/08/2008 14:16

15 months between mine

FruitynNutty · 27/08/2008 14:18

Ooh I might be swayed to buying a 2nd hand Jane now. Did you know it's pronounced "Harn-ay" I had no idea until I went to John Lewis and was corrected [blsuh] been calling them Jane's all this time!

So, if I was to buy a 2nd hand powertwin, what would I be looking for model wise?

elmoandella · 27/08/2008 14:27

the bottom line is.

you gotta take some kids and test them. thats what i did. i found the p&t felt rather shakey or flimsy to push. the powertwin was solid.

both can "turn on a 50p piece"

and obviously the newborn in P&T is enclosed. when you see this set up in action i feel a bit claustrophobic for the poor mite.

it's down to your preference.

i also didn't like how you would have to remove the doubles kit before you could fold it. too much faffing about.

if you buy a powertwin. try and get the pro version. these were an updated version which was made after autumn 2007. they have the car seats with the one handed realease and attachment.and has reversible covers.

FruitynNutty · 27/08/2008 14:44

Thanks elmoandella I'm going to have a mooch through Ebay and Gumtree now See what the completed listings go for

FruitynNutty · 27/08/2008 14:56

not much cheaper than the P&T Sport. I thought they were cheaper. I've got a good 6 months to think about it though

elmoandella · 27/08/2008 15:20

you'll get cheaper if you go for the older version. but make sure you get the car seat with it. it's they'rereally expensive to get now that the old version is discontinued.

FruitynNutty · 27/08/2008 16:38

ok, thanks!
I won't really need the car seat but I suppose I could sell that on. Not sure I really want a 2nd hand car seat. We're going for a Maxi Cosi as it will fit on my single pram. I only need the double for Childminding

elmoandella · 27/08/2008 16:44

if you dont need it for any trips to shops then you should definatley be getting something like the 360 outnabout or mb double. far far far easier to push than any of the tandems. but struggle with doors. shopping

FruitynNutty · 27/08/2008 16:55

I've had a side by side double before and didn't like it. Especially pushing on narrow pavements. Plus I often take the children out to run errands when we're not playing so I will need to be able to go through shop doorways. I've really got my heart set on a Jane or P&T. I've had so many double's/tandems I thought I'd spend some money on a decent one this time Especially one that's not too bulky

ladyjogsalot · 28/08/2008 20:46

just thought i'd update you all!
i decided to get a jane powertwin and found one for £100 on ebay.
i picked it up today and it's in great condition. it is smaller than i thought it would be and can't wait to take the babies out in it

ladyjogsalot · 28/08/2008 21:40

i'll have my niece for the first day on monday and wil report back that evening

OP posts:
elmoandella · 28/08/2008 21:42

heavy in the back if she's a lot older than you LO

ilovemydog · 28/08/2008 21:46

Phil and Teds! Have a 2 year old and 6 month old. Have the cocoon which the 6 month old seems to go to sleep in immediately!

My only gripe is that it's a bit like wrestling an eel when trying to collapse it. There aren't any fixtures to clamp it into place when out of use.

However, just received a part from P & T, completely free of charge saying that as part of their on going research and development, one aspect that was lacking was keeping it secure when not in use....

elmoandella · 28/08/2008 21:51

lol i lovemydog!! eel wrestling. is that similar to srestling with squirming wet child in the shower at swimming when they're really young.

ilovemydog · 28/08/2008 22:07

at least a wet child has an arm to grab ahold of! This has no arms, no legs - just wheels...

ladyjogsalot · 29/08/2008 08:39

they are the same age/weight roughly.
think ds will be in front as he is in to hair puling atm

nicolamumof3 · 29/08/2008 12:58

I tried a p&t yesteray and am so in love with it, im ordering mine today (just searching for best deal! and fastest delivery!) so easy to push with either one or two in.

ilovemydog · 29/08/2008 14:05

Be sure and get a bicycle pump! My tires get quite a bit of abuse....

ladyjogsalot · 01/09/2008 19:13

ok, as promised... my report:

i thought it was great, easy to steer, even with one hand (in fact i had an icecream on the way home! i had two other kids with me too and it was easy to navigate around them etc.

both babies fell asleep so they must have been comfy.

thanks to everyone for their advice
