All in the subject really: I would rather pay more so the items last than cheap and tatty within a month IYSWIM. Its for the whole lot. It's not anything unusual but I did notice that Tesco don't sell girls pale blue shirts (not the polo-type). TIA

I would pay a bit more for pinafores/skirts (M&S) than tights/polo tops and trousers as they don't wear out so quickly. (supermarket)

Everything appears to be grey/black and white (shirts). Where's all the navy/pale blue stuff??

Adams, Sainsbury's and M&S.

This is interesting - ds not starting reception till April but can you tell from looking at kids where there stuff came from or does it all look much of a muchness when they're all dressed the same? Does anyone care??!

SlowDown · 19/08/2008 20:58

'their' - apologies, I obviously need to get back to school myself

Sainsburys trousers are good and never need ironing

lilyloo · 19/08/2008 21:00

Marks ds going into y2 with his trousers from y1 as they still fit and miraculously are still in tact!

JiminyCricket · 19/08/2008 21:18

M & S prices seemed ok to me for the quality - pinafore dress for £4 I think, pack of polos for similar.

EustaciaVye · 20/08/2008 08:35

I have bought from Adams (they do light blue polos) and also from Woolworths. They were pretty cheap. Hopefully they will last ok.

twentypence · 20/08/2008 08:41

Sainsburys shirts seem good - though ds doesn't wear his every day.

My tesco polo shirts have not held their shape or colour well - but they are cotton so that was expected really.

Black Asda 100% cotton pants are doing well - though I only let him wear them on wet days (ie no outdoor play for him to go through the knees)

In my defence the nearest Asda is 24 hours away by plane!

Bought M&S skirts and cardy for DD last year and am just about to hand them down. Worth buying age 5 skirts for 4 year old as DD's too short by the summer. Have to order navy ones.

Asda for white polo shirts and vast quantities of white socks (get a 10 pack so you don't have to spend ages looking for a pair!) , Woolies for navy tights.
Asda were good for blue summer dresses too (60% cotton) but won't need them until Easter.

I buy M&S trousers for DS - no holes in knees till the end of this year - he is in Yr 2 and football crazy so I am sure that has caused it.

Polo shirts - again mainly M&S but have also bought Ladybird and Sainsburys and they have been fine. Cheaper the better in my view as they end up getting replaced as I can't stand the grubbiness. Mind you I don't think I replaced any this year.

Socks - grey for us so I buy multi packs from M&S.

FWIW although too late for this year - M&S do 3 for 2 on uniform stuff early in the summer - June/Julyish.

Debenhams not bad also as I recall - got some of his stuff there one year and he got a free pencil case thing with loads of stuff in it. He still uses it 3 years on.

I find next trousers good just as good as m&s. my son wears yellow polo's these are always hard to find. but asda's are lovely and cheap! School socks m&s are best thick and wash well.
