Oh poo. Bugaboo problem, what to do?

Took our Bugaboo frame back to Mothercare about 3 weeks? ago, after its first use, as the brake was making loud farting noises even when completely off.

The nice woman lent us an ex display frame, we have been using that with our own seat and wheels.

She ordered a new frame when i took it in as she agreed the brake was rubbing, and it isn't really fixable. However when I spoke to her today she says Bugaboo simply want to send out a new brake - which she has no idea how to fit, doesn't think this is possible etc.

She's going to ring them to have words and let me know what they say, but two things:

  1. I wouldn't want a sales assistant who doesn't believe it is possible, to be fitting my new brake - if indeed it can be replaced without specialist equipment, which I really doubt!

  2. should I send the original covers that came with it to my ebay buyer, they should be going today, as I bought new covers for mine - or keep hold of them and refund her, in case the whole thing needs to go back?

Does anyone know if you can actually replace the brake on a bug or is it just a daft idea?

Thanks

Its funny, my Bug had a squeaky, farty brake too. My DH managed to fix it though by loosening it some how - I think he did take the rear axle off, and re-aligned the teeth or something. He is Mr Fix-it though

I don't understand the covers question - is the faulty one sold to someone?

Whatever Bugaboo tell her isn't directly relevant to you , it is her problem, as the retailer with whom you have the contract , to sort out with them. If the shop cannot fix the part, a bike shop probably could, but once you have accepted a repair you cannot then insist on a replacement chassis. Is there an option for the manufacturer to refit the brake if sent away ?

In the meantime I would n't sell on any of the original package as that could compromise your statutory rights if you need to insist on a replacement or refund, as you could then be deemed to have accepted the goods.

Thankyou both - Pip I sold the blue covers because I preferred the grey, so bought some grey ones and sold the blue ones on ebay. Perhaps that was a little premature though..

Interested to hear it can be fixed though. The woman in the shop said she didn't see how. Lizs thankyou - I didn't accept a repair initially, I was just handed the spare pram as a loan, and told that a new chassis was being ordered - which was fine. I guess you're right that it is the shop's problem. It was half price as it was the discontinued colour, also the newer frames have better specs so I guess Bugaboo don't want to send out an 08 frame when mine was an 07 one...not that it ought to be that way.

She;'s ringing the company again today - shop assistant couldn't have been nicer, she is lovely and completely on my side - so I guess she'll probably have words.

I think I'll have to go through with the ebay sale in any case as I'll have a stroppy buyer otherwise. If the brake can actually be fixed easily then a repair might be Ok.

Thanks for all the ideas.

Bugaboo will usually just replace the chassis frame rather than fix it (yes it does mean you will a newer 08 chassis but your original wheels won't be replaced).

The brake assembly is actually v simple to replace. I did one for a customer just last week and I'm no genius!

No problem selling on your textiles, they don't need to go back to Bugaboo unless there is a problem with them - obviously not.

Thankyou Tea&Cake, (nice name!) that's reassuring. I figured that even if they can't fix it I can probably still sell it on at a profit...! So have sent the textiles off.
It's funny that they didn't make a lot, under £100 including the carrycot and so on, but I think the older colour had something to do with it - not one of the most attractive or subtle! I liked it but preferred something less 'jewel-like' as it were!

Still not heard back from the shop but I'm not too worried if it's as easy as you say it is to replace the brake.

Thanks
