What fridge freezer do you have and would you recommend it? If so, why? If not, which should we avoid?

Our fridge freezer has just packed up and as it was only a £300 one a few years ago it's not worth replacing and we need a new one.

We have a small freezer next to our washing machine so something that's half fridge, half freezer would be good.

What do you have and do you love it and if so, why? TIA for any recommendations. Or for pointing me to other threads if this is something that's been done recently.

Thanks frogs. God, it's all so BORING isn't it? I had earmarked tomorrow for lolling arounfd at home and taking dd to the cafe and maybe the farm to stroke some goats and rabbits but JL it is for us. Or Comet. I will prob buy first one that looks vaguely ok just so I can go home again

we ended up with the Bosch, (apart form the fact ex dh is german) cos it had the sort of slightly darker shade of white !!! Compared to all the others, it just looked groovier!!!

WideWebWitch · 07/08/2008 23:18

lol zipps at that thing you know as you're doing it is a damn stupid thing to do. I do that with balancing wine glasses on the side of the sofa

i spent ages looking at them for the spare house and toyed with the idea of a huge one as a feature of the room as it is a living room and kitchen combioned but got integrated separate matching fridge and freezer from beko in the end and im pleased with them...lots of room

and they are hidden

at least i assume they work fine

The docs here are quite big on bone health - it's a big issue for French women who tend to starve themselves in their youth and so have crappy bones in their old age.

Anyway, I'm not sure you are right PPH - I think it is soft drinks, not sparkling water, that are the problem for bone health.

zippitippitoes · 07/08/2008 23:19

they are under the worktop

frogs · 07/08/2008 23:20

Boring as fuck. At least you got some responses though -- I posted last year with the same question and got v. little response.

Don't go to Comet though, they only have the really mainstream brands, ie. all the ones PPH mentioned to avoid. Go to JL and then invite them to price match the cheapest on-line equivalent.

PrincessPeaHead · 07/08/2008 23:20

have a google anna
I'm off to bed folks, happy fridge shopping www. and check prices before you buy anything at JL - they appear to be a little out of control on their fridge pricing at the moment!
night all

zippitippitoes · 07/08/2008 23:21

my last wine accident was in a tent i somehow mnagaed to lay the bottle down next to me without putting the cap on

PrincessPeaHead · 07/08/2008 23:23

tried that frogs, here is my email from earlier today from katherine someone at JL when I complained that they were selling a fridge at £300 more than Dixons

We do not apply the 'Never Knowingly Undersold' pricing slogan to our internet and John Lewis Direct catalogue prices.

It is difficult for us to make comparisons with conventional shops. Also, we are unable to easily verify the availability of service and support offered by internet and catalogue retailers.

Our department stores, of course, remain 'Never Knowingly Undersold'

the fact that the same prices were on the shop floor at JL and Dixons appears to have passed them by, they are just waving their get out of jail card that I'd happened to order on the internet. Pisses me off, I must say. It is Dixons we are talking about, not some 2-bit internt company based in scunthorpe. anyway. Goodnight!

unknownrebelbang · 07/08/2008 23:23

Comet aren't renowned for their after-sales service, www.

zippitippitoes · 07/08/2008 23:24

its emails like bthat that undo years of good pr

frogs · 07/08/2008 23:27

JL = Wankers. I'm sure I've got them to match an online price before though. Or maybe that was Curry's or somewhere. Try Buyers & Sellers, they're good.

WideWebWitch · 07/08/2008 23:28

I know what you meant Zipps!

THanks pph and all. Frogs, I think I just caught some late night posters who had read everything else, didn't want a ruck and thought well there's a simple question I can answer!

Will let you all know what I get. Boring as fuck as it all is.

Thank you very much to everyone who told me aboput their appliances, I've read every post and told dh about them too. He was pissed off when we discovered it had packed up but has now calmed down.

Thanks everyone.

That's aload of bollocks as a reply pph, will remember that.

i got currys store to price match to currys online and include the 200 quid discount i had got by going thru a third party site

they couldnt replicate the discount online

because i didnt divulge the third party site

but i had the print off to show the price

and they very reluctantly agreed to it

but i hadnt bought anything so they had the choice of selling or me just walking off and getting it online

WideWebWitch · 08/08/2008 11:17

Ok, we bought this Samsung from Comet because they were the ONLY place that can deliver it tomorrow. The price was loads lower for the same fridge at Dixons and loads of other places but no stock or 2 week delivery and we can't last that long without a fridge/freezer. Itried asking Comet for adiscount via their online assistance AND on the phone but they wouldn't go down. Still, was worth a try.

I like the size of this one, we're having it in black which again isn't ideal but was all they had in stock for delivery tomorrow. I can live with that.

Thanks for all the advice here.

So we paid £599.99 and it was £440 on Dixons but with 2 week delivery. Irritating but frankly I didn't want to spend any more time than we already have on this. And we've avoided a boring trip to look at fridges, hurrah!

All you need now is to get a dog and train him to use the water dispenser - he could clean your kitchen floor for you whilst you are out

Twinkie1 · 08/08/2008 11:23

Bosch slimline thing that fits in a cupboard in the back kitchen - it is faba nd has some silver lining thing that is supposed to keep it antibacterial or something.

PrincessPeaHead · 08/08/2008 13:25

delivery tomorrow is fantastic, I think you've done v well
enjoy!

KatieScarlett2833 · 08/08/2008 13:31

I have the Samsung one, only got it a few months ago so can't comment on durability.

Water thing is good, kids like it when making squash. Loads of room inside. I esp. like the pull out part at the bottom of the fridge section which is great for storing drinks.

I think it's cheaper at Currys/Dixons, I'm sure mine was around £500.

bella29 · 08/08/2008 15:44

Liebherr - they make the fridges & freezers for Miele & I got mine here www.electricshop.com/icat/top10
Worked out at half the price of the Miele equivalent.
