Tommee Tippee roll up bibs going greasy - anyone had this?

I've got three of those Tommee Tippee roll up bibs - two purple and one red. the purple ones are fine, but the red one is really weird. No matter how much I scrub it with washing up liquid, after I leave it to dry it develops these weird greasy patches.

Just went on hols and washed it up before I left, left it on the drainer, and when we got back it was covered in grease. It's not something falling on it, cause nothing else in the drainer was affected. is this the rubber degrading or something?

maybe it's haunted....?

I used to bung mine in the dishwasher.

nicolamumof3 · 04/08/2008 10:48

LittleMyDancingForJoy · 04/08/2008 10:48

I know exactly what you mean. I always thought it was most peculiar.

LittleMyDancingForJoy · 04/08/2008 11:37

it is odd, isn't it? and annoying.

yes they did! v.funny so stopped using them. I brought some brother max bibs which are fabric at top and plastic catch all at the bottom v.good.

PrincessPeaHead · 04/08/2008 12:03

yes, very wierd. and you are right it is some colours not others.

I found when they went like that you had to bin them, they never went back

I think purple is the most reliable colour. why don't you email tommee tippee and see what they say (they will probably send you a new one!)

LittleMyDancingForJoy · 04/08/2008 12:07

I thought I might email them, but didn't want to seem like a nutcase, so thought I'd check with the MN jury first....!

Will report back...

yes let us know.
the worst is pale blue I think. Mine went BIZARRE

Oblomov · 04/08/2008 13:37

Pale blue one ?
I thought there was only purple and red.

PrincessPeaHead · 04/08/2008 14:40

no I had several pale blue ones that went wierdly sticky
mind you it was a couple of years ago now, maybe they discontinued them

Rosie29 · 04/08/2008 20:50

Oh thank goodness you posted this. The same thing happened to our red one and I thought I was going loopy! It felt and smelt (!) like it had been rubbed in a tub of lard. Had to bin it-very strange. Our purple and light blue ones are fine.

jellycat · 04/08/2008 20:58

This has just happened to ours as well....have used them for years and these are the first we've had that have gone like this. Others have been ditched because they have torn at the back. I thought it might be due to changing dishwasher tabs (to the Finish ones that don't have to be unwrapped) so have started handwashing them, but to no avail, they are still greasy. Ours are blue. I guess I shall just have to get some more.

PInkyminkyohnooo · 04/08/2008 21:06

Ours do this from time to time, we have a red one and a blue one. It sort of comes and goes. I always wash by hand and leave to drain.

The purple one we had never recovered from a particularly tomatoey spag bol incident. I think it's because of the type of rubbery plastic they are made of.

I second those brothermax bibs, they are very good.

LittleMyDancingForJoy · 04/08/2008 21:23

Just had this back from Tommee Tippee, quite rare my arse.....

Hi

Thank you for your e-mail, I am sorry to hear you have had a problem with one of our bibs. Unfortunately due to the nature of the material over time and constant use, washing etc. the plastic can become a bit greasy, however we have found this is quite rare . Please return the bibs to us at the freepost address below and we will be more than happy to arrange a refund or replacement for you.

Please include a note with your details and whether you would prefer a refund or replacement for the bibs.

Shall we all send them our bibs demanding replacements?

PrincessPeaHead · 05/08/2008 07:36

I think you should
I'm not sure what trading standards would think if they knew how common this was. I know I've had about 4 that I've binned because of this problem. Don't use them at all now, so can't be part of the mass send-back, but I'll be there in spirit! They aren't THAT cheap and they shouldn't just DENATURE when they feel like it...

Oblomov · 05/08/2008 10:18

I've dug out two of mine. I could only find 2 pink ones. They feel all tacky and slimey. I can barely touch them. Gross.

Shall I too send mine back ?????????

SmacsGonePotty · 28/07/2010 23:22

I know this is an old thread as I did a MN search and this came up but this is exactly what has happened to my TT bibs. I have 3 which are about 20 months old from weaning DD1 and in the last month they have gone so greasy. I haven't tried them in the dishwasher only ever hand washed but I did try some soda crystals are they are really good at cutting through grease but no joy.
I have gone to the contact page on the TT site and sent an enquiry but it will be interesting to see what they are saying 2 years on.
I have a purple, an orange one and a pink one and they are all equally greasy.

burntcaramel · 19/07/2022 16:51

it's 2022 and I've had my TT silicone bib since 2019, it's just now that its turned greasy. After washing it thoroughly and wiping it dry, I've stored it after rubbing talc powder on it - I've learned this nifty trick in storing my silicone swimming cap so to prevent it from sticking.
