my dh has a DAB clock radio from john lewis which you can set to three different brightnesses - bright, not bright, and really very faint. We put it on the last setting which means that it gives off almost no light, and dh can see it (just) because it is on his side of the bed, but I can't see it at all without getting out of bed, walking to his side, and squinting at it.

It is probably just what you need!

here you go

theyoungvisiter · 28/07/2008 22:23

we have this - not cheap but it's fab. It's a dab radio and alarm clock, with a grey clock display (when the radio is off - when the radio is on it displays the station playing).

When you touch the handle at night the display lights up to a soft blue that you can read and then fades out.

It is also a radio alarm and you can set it to week day and weekend functions and different stations. If you touch the handle when it goes off, it snoozes for ten mins or something.

Can you tell I love it?

NappiesNoMore · 28/07/2008 22:24

yes i have that problem pph. offends my feminist upbringing it does. till i remember that he has to get up at certain times and i, generally, do not. hah! hows that for freedom of choice

NappiesNoMore · 28/07/2008 22:25

hmmm, am enjoying the touchy lovliness of tyv's... (apologies trinity, for taking over your thread )

theyoungvisiter · 28/07/2008 22:33

it is lovely nappies - my only gripe is that it's on DH's side of the bed so I have to lean over him to get to it. Still not sure how he bagged that one...

PrincessPeaHead · 28/07/2008 22:36

he he nappies.
not helped by the fact that I am completely BLIND without my contacts in, so actually I have to get out of bed, go to his side, bend down so my nose almost touches the radio, and then physically pull my eyes about until I can get a vague amount of focus. Don't know why I bother really, much easier just to stay blissfully unaware of the time until a small child lands on my head

TrinityRhino · 28/07/2008 22:36

STOP I LOVE THEM ALLL
BUT I dont have that much to spend

be more creative and find me a cheaper one

It has to plug in or else it will run out and stop and I'll be late everywhere

It has to be not like the 'luminations'

it can be funky, weird shaped, coloured etc

it has to have a snooze function and be a radio alarm

ffaaaaaanks

busymum1 · 28/07/2008 22:49

aldi £8 radio with alarm function about 2 inches high 8 inches long can attach to window sil or cupboard with attachments provided not sure about snooze function as never have time to find out

Pannacotta · 28/07/2008 22:51

Have you looked on Amazon? They have a few which seem to omeet your spec, though its hard to know how bright they are without seeing them...

NappiesNoMore · 28/07/2008 22:58

trinz, so sorry i dont have an answer for you. i am rubbish at finding specific stuff, thats what i use mn for!

pph - lol at description, and ditto re contacts, only am too lazy to get out of bed so lean on dp and crane neck to try to see, thereby waking him partially and invoking abuse for so doing. ho hum!
tyv clearly has the same problem!

soz sobernow. we live in middle of nowhwhere too so there truly is no light unless a bright moon [bliss]

stealthsquiggle · 29/07/2008 10:20

Can I just mention (no good I know cos you want a cheap one) but the best thing that mine does is that it sets itself (link to atomic clock signal from somewhere ?) which means that every time we have a power cut (frequently, including last night) DH has to reset his alarm clock and/or it just doesn't go off, and mine sorts itself out [smug grin]

..and it also means that I win all arguments about who has the 'right' time

TrinityRhino · 29/07/2008 11:25

roffle squiggle

Oh I'm so glad I'm not the only one who has this problem! I got through about 15 different clocks before buying a £2.99 one from Asda which is perfect!
