Do you have a juicer? Do you use it?

Thats it really!

Thinking about getting one to boost fruit/veg intake for us all really.

Thought tasty juices brimming with goodness for breakfasts........ or would it end up with everything else in the cupboard at the back?

Yes and no!

motherinferior · 08/02/2005 22:24

Only one juice a day counts as one of your five (fibre issues, etc) apparently (I have asked several nutritionists about this!) so I wouldn't bother, personally.

misdee · 08/02/2005 22:24

i keep thinking about it. my dd's love oranges but find them hard to eat (i thin kwith dd2 its texture) so would love for them to have real juice.

SenoraPostrophe · 08/02/2005 22:24

yes and not often. Should use it more now we have a dishwasher - they're buggers to clean by hand.

princesspeahead · 08/02/2005 22:26

yes
not much

actually hardly at all

actually not for at least a year

PuffTheMagicDragon · 08/02/2005 22:28

I do use mine every day. I only make veggie juices though.

Peckarollover · 08/02/2005 22:31

Oh - bugger

Had visions of us drinking vegetable juices disguised by fruity flavours and brimming with health!

I know, it's such a seductive picture, isn't it. But apparently you have to brim with the real fruit. I can never work out whether soups - being blended - count or not, but I reckon they do.

DD wont go near soups

Surely freshly squeezed fruit and veg juice are still healthy tho? Regardless of count?

Are there vitamins in the juice still or does the whole fruit need to be eaten for that too

OP posts:
motherinferior · 08/02/2005 22:37

Not sure. I think it's still frightfully healthy and probably does sort of count because the rule is there mainly to stop people swigging bottled juice all day (juice made from concentrate doesn't count at all, btw) rather than imbibing rare froots and veggies carefully pressed by hand in manner of pricey olive oil...

SenoraPostrophe · 08/02/2005 22:37

you still get the vits with juice - just not the fibre.

PuffTheMagicDragon · 08/02/2005 22:39

You can make muffins from the fibrous stuff that's left after juicing.

bobbybob · 08/02/2005 22:40

Yes and No.

miggy · 08/02/2005 22:41

yes
no-not for 2 yrs
just too faffy with washing up etc

Merlot · 08/02/2005 22:41

Got a fantastic juicer see here

Hardly use it

Not at back of cupboard, but sits on worksurface looking sorry for itself

miggy · 08/02/2005 22:43

merlot-so glad your unused juicer was even more expensive than my unused juicer-feel so much less guilty now
looks flash though!

makealist · 08/02/2005 23:00

Yes I have a juicer, recently updated mine to a L'equip 110.5 juicer approx £99. which is really good, it gets loads more juice out of your fruit and veg than the cheaper ones do, and it's quite simple to clean.

I don't think the counts as one applies to freshly juiced friut and veg as the juice is still "live" and not processed as carton fruit juice is.

I found Jason Vale's website good for info. www.thejuicemaster.com. He explains things very well. I also have acouple of his books, they make an interesting read.

Veggie juices taste ok, you just have to have a carrot or carrot and apple base for them (makes them taste sweeter)

The trick is to keep your juicer on your worktop, not tucked away in the cupboard.

makealist · 08/02/2005 23:02

oops~ didn't read that Merlot's is on the worktop

CountessDracula · 08/02/2005 23:06

Yes and Yes! Have the breville anthony worral thompson one it is fantastic and I use it 4 x a week

nappybaglady · 08/02/2005 23:09

Can't get away with the taste of veggie juices but love pineapple and orange mix. Sadly means 2 bits of horrid washing - juicer and citrus press so we're rearely brimming with vitamins.

mishmash · 08/02/2005 23:09

Yes - couldn't be without it now. Have to fresh juice every morning - at least three fruits. Orange (main, pineapple, apple, mango, strawberry, pink grapefruit - whatever goes - bananas aren't great as they are too thick.

Haven't really tried veggies but believe that peppers, celery, carrotts blend quite well

milge · 08/02/2005 23:12

Yes, and No - twice since we got it in June last year - Fathers Day breakfast, and the day after. Consigned to the dust shelf above the units in the kitchen where it will stay, i predict, until we move.

PuffTheMagicDragon · 08/02/2005 23:16

Merlot, I am well jealous of your juicer
