aaaaagh !

Driving me nuts - every 2-3 weeks I seem to have the think in bits trying to work out what's wrong ... this time.

Totally agree with Janh-I wanted a dyson for ages, got one and hated it with a vengeance. Became blocked all the time, lost suction all the time-it was consigned to the shed when it was about a year old and I have got a new Miele. (The basic black model, which is far better than the Dyson and cost half as much)

OK then .... how do I clean the filter - I have the DC07 - cat and dog purple and red thingy .... cr@p .... pants ... sh!t ....

'Tis true Badhair. My old Dyson was brilliant and was used everyday for 8 years with no problems. Thought I'd treat myself to the newer version and I hate it with a vengeance. I've even been known to wear earplugs when using it because the horrible high-pitched whine gives me a headache! Also, it's heavier, the tools are a really bad fit (almost impossible to put on, then drop off when you least expect it), and it doesn't even pick up properly! As soon as I can afford another one, it's going.

crystaltips, have you got your manual?

Actually, even if you have look here which tells you with moving pictures how to get the bugger out; only it doesn't work, I can get the carrier out of the machine but not the filter out of the carrier.

You might be luckier but anyway I rang up and the very nice helpful lady there said to soak the whole thing in cold water, then (she says) the filter will come out and you can wash it and let all the bits (inc carrier) dry for 12 hours. Haven't done it yet, but if it still flaps and doesnt't suck after I do I will get a sodding engineer round (I got the extended warranty luckily!)

mine is rubbish. It is the first model granted but even so they are meant to last forever aren't they? Like JanH mine doesn't suck strongly either. There is a place near us that services Dysons. Might take it to him. Can't afford a new cleaner yet.

I've had my dyson about 5 years, it's an 04. The only problem i've had is the pipe thingy for doing the stairs is split, but i just mended it with some sticky tape! Sometimes it loses suction because i've knocked the switch for changing between hard floors and carpet, but it just needs switching back. I love mine, picks up the dog hair a treat!

hub2dee · 08/02/2005 22:00

We've got one. Worst problem was a bust hose. Twice. Silly design detail. If you phone them up they have a price to fix 'anything but the motor' and another price for 'anything including motor'. I collected a pile of problems and ended up with lots of nice new bits and some replacement accessories we wore out.

I still like it though. It went through hell clearing out rubble under floorboards when we were doing lots of building work, and if you can get good at checking the various ducts etc. and clean the filter occasionally it should do a good job.

Haven't had too many problems with ours except for loose wires on numerous occasions. Dh has taken it apart and shortened the lead and re-wired it. Only trouble is now there isn't much length on the lead and I am almost having to plug the hoover into a socket in every room I hoover in. Time for a new hoover soon me thinks!!

munnzieb · 08/02/2005 22:08

well thanks fully mine's under the two yr guarentee thing (actually remebere to fill in the forms this time!) the only prob I ahve is the bottom gets clogged up with all the dog hairs so it has to be cleaned each month or 3 weeks or so inorder for it to pick up just as good, def thumbs up for me thou!

There is a Henry cat and dog too - it's green - it's in the Argos extra catalogue, not online. Might be worth thinking about (I think it's cheaper than the Miele, and Henry has many ardent fans!)
