oops sorry

boots?

charliecat · 07/02/2005 19:58

Our pound shop does them for 5.99

Polgara2 · 07/02/2005 20:52

Ethel Austins for about a pound. Or local pound shops. You shouldn't need to pay more than that for it. We have 2 different types but the best one is called Turbie Towel.

Hulababy · 07/02/2005 20:57

DD has one - a butterfly. Think my mum picked it up pretty cheap from one of the cheap shops in town - somewhere like Poundland or Home Bargains.

There are more expensive versions around too though.

Surfermum · 07/02/2005 21:00

Help the Aged have new ones for about £6. Tigers, ducks, etc.

My mum made me one back in the 70's that's ankle length and it's still going strong. She made one for dsd too and no doubt dd will get one now. Just a huge towel with elastic round the neck part (don't expect a better explanation than that - I wouldn't have a clue how to make one). I don't wear mine at the pool though. They're great for changing on the beach and getting warm after being in the sea.

onlyjoking9329 · 07/02/2005 21:05

my three have them, we got them from home bargins think they were a fiver

serenequeen · 07/02/2005 21:41

here is the link to Towcho - towel/poncho, see?

Twiglett · 07/02/2005 21:53

at SQ

I actually prefer the idea of one around £5 rather than £25 TBH

well let me know if you find one in se london for that price! i've never seen any at all in our local shops, let alone for a fiver!

Cam · 08/02/2005 12:36

My mum made us each one out of towels in the 60's - I used to feel totally humiliated using mine as none of my friends had one, I didn't realise I wasn't naff but simply light years ahead of the times!

woodpops · 08/02/2005 13:48

Jojo maman has them. You'll get 10% discount from MN as well

titchy · 08/02/2005 17:33

Try these - only a fiver for ones up to 6 years, 8 quid for bigger ones.

here

Haven't got one myself but seen them and they look OK quality.

Twiglett · 08/02/2005 17:48

thanks I've ordered 2 .. will let you know what they're like when they arrive

(bizarely I saw some in Bromley today, but they wanted £20 each and they were personalised whilst you waited .. I ummed and ahed but decided that it was too much and also was not sure its a good idea to put your child's name on a beach towel for all to see TBH)

OP posts:
serenequeen · 14/02/2005 15:34

hi twiglett, have they arrived yet?

they look right in terms of design - but since i hate character emblazoned thingies, i'm having a conflict about whether to spend £18 on a plain towcho or only £5 on a character one from titchy's site...

failed to find any on jjmmbb website...

Twiglett · 14/02/2005 15:37

yes they arrived next day ..they are quite thin but adequate for the job I think and the print job is quite good .. once they've gone through the dryer I think they'll thicken up a little

.. the postage seemed quite expensive at £5 so factor that in if you think you'd like more than one (I got one for DD and for DS)

They're actually quite cute when on .. but for 4 year old DS I went with the large (which was a good plan I think)

Twiglett · 14/02/2005 15:38

I got a shark and a mermaid

DS loves his shark

OP posts:
serenequeen · 14/02/2005 15:39

thanks

yes, i'm sure ds would love to be a monkey/shark/tiger etc - it's just me that would shudder at it!

Twiglett · 14/02/2005 15:40

you aren't allowed to have taste when you have children

OP posts:
serenequeen · 14/02/2005 15:40

er, sorry, just a personal opinion, i'm sure your ds looks wonderful and of course you have impeccable taste etc etc

or as my father says, when you're in a hole stop digging...
