Threw said string bag to the bottom of the bag I carry most days. Went out to visit a client. On route home thought... ooh I'll just pop into Sainsburys. Got extra nectar points for using my own bag. Got lots of compliments about it as well.

So all in all... I'm good for the environment today

iCodandnotDumb · 21/07/2008 18:25

MarsLady · 21/07/2008 22:10

They did and I told them. In fact I'm thinking of getting myself a couple of spares to pop in my other bags

onepieceoflollipop · 21/07/2008 22:13

Only black and sludge coloured in our M&S. Will look out for the hot pink ones as they are far nicer.

( btw Debenhams have just started charing 5p for carrier bags - M&S have been charging for ages) - another reason to get one of these.

Thanks for that kind offer Cod - if that last post was to me. I am going to try our bigger Marks later in the week but may get back to you if not in luck.

MarsLady · 23/07/2008 12:54

It's really strong isn't it? I carried [a watermelon] 6pts milk and a bottle of wine (along with cereal, sausages and flour). Wonderful! Love it! Love Cod!

MarsLady · 24/07/2008 09:35

lol! The watermelon was an automatic after the words "I carried a..."

WendyWeber · 24/07/2008 09:39

Mine is lime green, only colour there when I got it, & I use it like a handbag (lacking coat pockets in the summer) - it's great except when I put my keys in it

TwoWashTutter · 24/07/2008 09:39

ah

they make me think of franny

don't ask me why

Whizzz · 24/07/2008 09:41

I looked but didn't see any - however I did buy a lime green pouch bag £3.50, long handles, folds up small - does that count?

ladytophamhatt · 24/07/2008 09:45

please don't make me take 4 un-cooperative boys to the shops.

Shall I beg?

TwoWashTutter · 24/07/2008 09:48

ok ladies i'll ask..

lth, would yoyu like me to send you one? colour?

ladytophamhatt · 24/07/2008 09:52

lime green sounds teh best option I think.

I won't be able to force ask the boys to carry a pink one.

Dunno about the M&S ones, but I've used Turtle string bags for ages. I just have a plain string-coloured one, but they do a really wide range of colours and you get them with long or short handles or one that comes in its own little pocket thing - and you can get them mail order. No, I'm not associated with the company at all - in fact I only came across them because they sell through an organic gardening products catalogue..

Bink · 24/07/2008 14:54

Yes it's useful
yes it's nice
yes it's moral
but it's a PAIN when the fast-turnover-check-out people INSIST on bagging things (despite me begging NO I'll do it NO I'll do it PLEASE leave it to me) & they snag all the packages on the strings & crash the stuff in upside down & smashed up & I have to hasslingly rescue & repack it all myself with a fast-turnover-check-out-queue building & huffing

I have suddenly realised - they must be on commission on slithery carrier bags (5p each this week, £1,000 next), & therefore you are being punished for not being an extra subtle profit centre
