dualit toasters
starlover · 02/02/2005 13:58
Are they worth the money?
I reeeeeeeeeeally want a pink toaster... and the dualit one is the only one I can find.
I can't actually believe that I am seriously considering paying over a hundred quid for a bloody toaster!
I remember seeing a toaster review a while back and I don't think the dualit came out very well...
but does anyone here have one? and would you recommend them?
Fimbo · 02/02/2005 14:00
Cupcakes was thinking about it, but don't know if she got round to buying one.
bakedpotato · 02/02/2005 14:04
we've got the 2-slot in chrome (wedding present, adds hastily).
have to say, toast does occasionally get stuck in the slots. they're not wide enough for chunky doorsteps/crumpets etc which is a pain. we use oven grill for those.
i wish i'd got the dualit with the extra slot and bit of kit for making toasted sandwiches. now, those rock.
starlover · 02/02/2005 14:08
damn, so now i have to buy the even more expensive one!
hehe
the cheapo one we have at the moment doesn't cope with anything fatter than regular bread really so I guess that wouldn't matter too much.... although for the price I would want it to do EVERYTHING! including buttering my toast and bringing me tea

DH is very fussy about his kitchen equipment and he loves the Dualit toaster (2 slots plus basket thing). He says its much faster than other toasters, properly made and looks nice. I think they give good service too on replacement elements etc and repairs. I'd have thought there'd be lots of good copies by now though. Ours has been going for 13 years (wedding pressie too) with daily use.

I've got the 4 slot one and the wider slots are fine for bagels, crumpets etc. It's been on the go every day for 7 years and still works perfectly. The only whine I have is that it still makes the clicky noise even if it's not plugged in, so you wait for your lovely toast only to find it wasn't working...but then I am v greedy and impatient!!
starlover · 02/02/2005 15:47
ahhh satine... i am greedy and impatient too, so perhaps it isn't the toaster for me!!! LOL
joandkids · 02/02/2005 17:47
We have the 4 slot stainless steel one and it is certainly good and reliable and the kids can use it with ease, its like any purchase, how much do you use it vs the liklihood of a cheaper one breaking.
starlover · 02/02/2005 17:52
yeah, we do use our toaster a lot... just wondering if i can really justify buying it simply because I want a pink toaster LOL!
nikkim · 02/02/2005 17:54
I love ours, it keeps the toast warmish if you don't get to it straight away as it doesn't pop the toast out. I like the chunkiness of them - makes you feel as if they will last and mine has been going about eight years and shows no sign of failing. My only gripe is when you toast pancakes in it sometimes they get stuck and you have to fish them out with a knife and then they get ripped. But they are an outrageous price. My kitchen dream wish at the moment is a kitchenaid mixer - which you can also get in pink! but at £250 I will have to keep dreaming.

Mine is over 10 years old and I've only recently had to had it overhauled, timer and wiring replaced by Dualit. I was so happy to have it working again and if it lasts another 10 years then I'll feel like I've had my monies worth!

ks, you forgot to mention that your toaster moonlights as an embossing heat tool!
Hulababy · 02/02/2005 19:29
We have a 2 slot one (the 4 slot was a bit big for our worktops). Love it and if I am truely honest, we bought it because we liked the way it looks
starlover · 03/02/2005 12:12
nikkim... am after said pink kitchenaid too!!!!
podmog... hadn't thought about ebay! will go and see if there are any on there now!
starlover · 03/02/2005 12:19
thanks hulababy... no pink ones...but will keep checking!

We've had ours for nearly 9 years. Still looks fab and works fine. TBH they don't work any better than a normal toaster but they look much nicer and last longer. We have the 3 slot one with the third slot being wider with the basket thingy so can do tea-cakes, muffins, naan bread from the take-away etc no problem.
I think you can always justify paying extra for soemthing beautiful if you can afford it.
I have a kitchen aid too - I love my gadgets .
starlover · 03/02/2005 13:01
yes, as william morris said "don't have anything in your house that you do not believe to be useful or beautiful"
or something along those lines
LipstickMum · 03/02/2005 14:28
I have a dualit toaster, a 4 slicer, we bought it in 1998 and it's still going strong. Only had a filament changed once because it wasn't used properly by our lodger and that was in about 1999. Since then not a peep.
Demented · 03/02/2005 14:42
I've got a four slice one (the sandwich cages can go in any of the slots, don't know if that means they are extra wide or not) but haven't had a problem toasting thick bread.
We bought it because of looks and durability, only had it about 18 months but so far so good.
starlover · 03/02/2005 15:24
hahahah nikkim... too right!
dp cleaned the WHOLE kitchen last night!!!
