Tell me about baby ear defenders please! Are the Peltor ones any good?

I neeeed some baby ear defenders for eight month old DD so that I can take her to rehearsals/gigs etc.

Can anyone recommend or avert me from any specific makes?

The only ones I can seem to find are Peltor ones which claim to fit up to seven year olds. Does anyone have these ones?

Thanks in advance, mwah!

Quick email to Sharon Osborne perhaps... or Gwynnie Paltrow (although not sure of coldplay loud enough to worry about )

I have the Peltor ones for 17 week ds3. They won't fit up to age 7 but they do keep the sounds levels down. They are comfy too (i can get them over most of my ears if i put them on upside down) You still get sound but its muted

Those Osbourne kids never wore hearing protection, I've seen footage of them moshing at the side of the stage.

As for Gwinnie she never replies to emails, lazy bint {wink]

Thanks BDF. Do you reckon they'd be ok for gigs then? Is that what you use them for (or your ds rather)?

Thing is...do they come with glue to stop small child removing them almost instantly?

BlueDragonfly · 05/07/2008 21:19

I think you would be ok with it. it is still probably going to be loud for your DD if she isn't used to it. but it won't be ear splittingly loud! just like a raised voice conversation iyswim. ds3 is used to loudness

the loudest we have used them for is VERY loud gig and he slept thru!

BlueDragonfly · 05/07/2008 21:20

they are a snug fit tig but alas no glue!

I think that if they remove them once and feel the actual volume, then they will be reluctant to remove them again!

Ds is fickle. He loves "noisy" music on cd player etc but was freaked recently by a kiddie band playing bad punk rock and complained they were "too noisy"! I think it was the vocal 'style' that did it tbh. They weren't loud really, it was an open air local gig!

AnyFuleKno · 05/07/2008 21:50

aww tigana your poor ds

I saw an open air gig recently but the generator was so loud you couldn't hear the music at all - problem solved!

Thanks for advice BDF, think I will punt up the cash and give those Peltor ones a go.

you can get them from amazon in neon green or pink or a gun store if you have one nearby (or maybe i just have a hgh percentage of babies needing ear defenders for shooting guns in my town)

fairy15 · 07/07/2008 11:38

my boys both have peltor ones & they seem happy to wear them so they must be comfy. they are 2 & 8 months.

AnyFuleKno · 07/07/2008 20:07

Good to hear that others are happy with them - as far as I can tell from a quick web search peltor seem to be the only available ear defenders for babies! Looks like there's a niche in the market for someone to do some cool patterned ones. Industrious mumsnetters take note!

I have pink Peltors for my dd and about to buy another pair. We have the Farnborough Airshow to contend with and that is why I bought a pair originally for when dd hated the loud planes. Now I have 2 dd's and the Airshow is due to start in a couple of weeks!

Also used on Bonfire Night so they can still watch the fireworks at displays but without the noise!

Hi, we have some for our 20mo ds and they are just fab.
We took ds to a festival last year and he wore them the whole time.
I think they are really important if you expose them to loud music.

I went to wireless festie last week and some stupid parents had really young kids next to the speakers witjhout ear protection, so silly.

Enjoy!

AnyFuleKno · 08/07/2008 21:11

thanks paow!

Cool name by the way
