Hi,

As a trainee Mummy I need some inspiration. Has anyone got any ideas for items to put in goody bags for my DS 1st birthday party. All babies are around 1 or younger and mainly girls.

Thanks

i wouldn't stress too much if they are only one or younger

sending them home with some cake will be lovely

if you do want to get stuff there is a thread here have a look

how about a board book as a present rather than an actual goodie bag?

I've done this quite alot with my dc.

willow · 02/07/2008 20:50

I really wouldn't worry about it at this age.

Booboobedoo · 02/07/2008 20:50

I'd go with just the cake (that's what I did).

Or maybe buy one of those In The Night Garden little libraries, and give the children one book each.

Surfermum · 02/07/2008 20:51

I put in a bath toy and a bar of Thornton's chocolate for the mums.

geordieminx · 02/07/2008 20:54

They have the night garden box set in asda at the moment for £2.90?

Ds is 14 months and loves his!

funnypeculiar · 02/07/2008 20:54

Honestly? They won't know they should have a goody bag - I'd forget about it whilst you can
And at 1 they won't appreciate the plastic tat that is the real joy of the party bag , so you'd have to put decent stuff in it.

Ito cheap stuff, bubbles is your best bet (always a winner) & maybe a small soft toy?

tassisssss · 02/07/2008 20:57

I'd not worry for a 1st b'day, though do like the presents for the mummies especially if it's antenatal type friends.

If you really want to buy I think board books or juice bottles or plastic bowls or plates (asda have lovely girl ones!) are best. Plus cake and chocolate buttons (that in this house get eaten mostly by me!).

Sidge · 02/07/2008 20:59

To be honest I probably wouldn't bother, they won't appreciate it!

But this site has some nice things, and I found them very reliable.

A piece of cake (for mummy!) and some bubbles or a little soft toy is plenty. (and I wouldn't expect a party bag for my toddler at that age so I am sure anything would be enjoyed)

scrappydappydoo · 02/07/2008 21:05

I did - bubbles, a small bath toy, a magic painting book and cake. It didn't cost much cos i got them all in multipacks from a pound shop. So for 30 kids it was £10 for the lot! I had a joint party with several friends hence the number of kids and 'partyness' of it.

BettySpaghetti · 02/07/2008 21:07

For DD's 1st birthday we just sent everyone home with a filled helium balloon. If you try party-type shops they sell them there.

At that age they get lots of fun from one.

There are some geat ideas here. I wasn't too sure on the etiquette. Thanks for your help

FEP: just to warn you that if you have any slightly older children at your party they may have other ideas.

I was solemnly informed by my friends 3yo that "you have to give the party bags out now".

My friend was very embarrassed, but it was funny.

I just told her that you didn't get party bags at baby parties. (Also, she'd picked all the sweets off DS's cake and eaten them when no-one was looking ).

FEP · 03/07/2008 14:11

Thanks for the warning Booboo. I have 2 x 5 year olds coming they are bound to be put off it I try to palm them off with a bit of cake.
