We have a big Mothercare pram for ds that is just becoming too big now and are looking for something more suitable.
Ds is 4 months and I'd like a pushchair that reclines, is very sturdy/chunky with large wheels and preferably with individual handles rather than a bar iyswim. It will live in the house and ds may have some of his naps in it. I'd also like the raincover etc.
I don't need to put it in the car boot as I have a Graco one that lives there and I don't want a 3 wheeler.
Am not averse to buying second hand so this can be taken into consideration regarding budget (which is pretty tight!)
I've been checking out all other mums' pushchairs and one I saw that looked like it fitted the bill was the loola but I think this will be too much money . Ican't see anything in Mothercare or Babies r us that fits the bill-maybe I'm just too fussy

Ds is already over 23lbs if this has any impact on choices as I'd like it to last as long as possible

AnAngelWithin · 02/07/2008 12:34

silver cross pop

greenelizabeth · 02/07/2008 12:35

Or a mcaclaren, easy to fold, light, they recline fully, come with a rain cover...... not fancy and poncey though.

Now I see that M&P do a ZILKO which is basically a maclaren but cheaper. They might be worth a look.

themildmannneredjanitor · 02/07/2008 12:36

this is like ours

greenelizabeth · 02/07/2008 12:36

ONE of the maclarens has bigger wheels than all the rest. It's a stroller, but wheels are bigger than other stroller wheels. It's a 'Techno'

I had a Loola for both my boys and its lovely, they both slept in it. The carrycot is great for up to around 7 months and is super comfy.
They last until toddler age though can be a tad heavy then if you compare to a light Maclaren, though they are much more comfy.
Look on ebay as you can often get the pushchair and carrycot for under £100:

misdee · 02/07/2008 12:41

the loola will be too heavey with your little one in it, at his current weight.

dd2 was my giant baby, and i found maclarens the best for durability when transporter a larger than average child.

i am only saying this, as at 4months and 23lb he sounds like dd2 was

Haylstones · 02/07/2008 12:49

Thanks all.
I looked at the Maclarens but they seemed a bit flimsy...what I liked about the loola was that it had a chunky thick frame but am glad misdee said he'd be too big for it as I didn't realise that. (have no idea where I got him from- dd was this size at 10 months...)

i have a one by Toysrus, a bruin which is from birth, is a regular fold one that fully reclines as alot of these types are from 6 months onwards.

I've seen this (thanks for that tmmj)- what is the verdict oh wise ones?

well my big 4 year old can still go in his if needed!
it lies flat for sleeping, is nice to push with adjustable height handles, -it's fine.

misdee · 02/07/2008 14:04

the maclarens arent flimsey at all. i used one for dd2 qwhen she was around 30lb at under a year old until she was 2.5years old, and gave it toa friend who used it for her little one for another two years.

misdee · 02/07/2008 14:05

i found the new pliko are weighjted at the front and i couldnt lift it up kerbs. was back breaking.

JUST my opinion of course

Haylstones · 02/07/2008 14:20

Thanks for all the advice, knew I'd get it on here! Ds is my second and I am only now trying to get a decent pushchair having tried so many different ones over the past 4 years! I had already gone for the Pliko before I read Misdee's last post but fingers crossed it'll be Ok!
Misdee, can I be cheeky and ask about your dd2? She sounds like ds in size and I'm wondering what I'm going to do if/when he grows out of his infant car seat. It's a Britax Rock a Tot and the maximum weight is 28lbs- he was nearly 23lbs 4 weeks ago so I'm wondering if he'll grow out of it before he's ready for the next stage. I can't see him gaining less than 5 lbs in the next 8 months! We also have the Britax First Class but it doesn't fit rearwards in our car so am curious as to what others do...

OP posts:
misdee · 02/07/2008 14:41

dd2 was ff at around 6months old. she just didnt face in any of the rear facing seats available at the time, and even the britax club class we had didnt cater for her weight range. she stayed i nthe stage 1 ff seat until she just turned two and was then too tall and heavey for it. i tried to find a seat with straps for a higher weight limit and found the britax elite, but was too tall for that, so ended up i na high backed booster. wasnt ideal, but we had people scratching their heads trying to figure out what to do for the best.

3girlies · 02/07/2008 14:49

The Chicco trekker style ones with a bumper bar were my favourite, on ebay someone is selling slightly older models of this for 49.99 new, plus post, they are really sturdy and last forever, suitable for naps in the house too, they have a great seat.
I agree with Misdee about the P3, I can't get mine up the kerb either, it is now for sale!
Maclarens are brilliant, but I like something to carry stuff too, and my ones do not perform well when loaded up.

HTH.

Haylstones · 02/07/2008 15:10

Thanks.
Misdee, I was hopoing but expecting you to say that! I shall cross my fingers and hope he stays in this seat for as long as possible- buying a new car is Not An Option!

OP posts:
Haylstones · 02/07/2008 15:10

sorry, was hoping you wouldn't but expecting you would!
