Hi,

My son is being treated for Impatigo thought to have been caught from his eczema. It has still not cleared up and now the doc is unsure what is actually is. I have just realised that about 7 weeks ago I changed my washing powder to the Fairy Non Bio liquid I am now wondering if this is what is causing the rash as it is everywhere but under his nappy. I have picked up some surclean to try but wondered if anyone has tried the Ecoballs. I'm thinking it may be worth a try for his skin but worried they aren't going to clean his clothes that get covered in the usual baby mess. Any advice ladies?

my sisters son has very bad eczema and she only uses cheap powders as the more expnesive ones irritate him more, though i know a lot of people on here use ecover (?) try postiing under health and use eczema in your title loads of people on here have dcs with bad eczema and they'll all have advice on products for you

set your washing machine to do an extra rinse through after the initial one (DS had contact excema and this is what washing powder company suggested)

We have used ecoballs for periods, tbh they don't do anything you're basically washing in hot water and the agitation gets it clean .. it can be good enough sometimes though

You can't catch impetigo from excema though .. did your GP really say that? It's caused by bacteria (one of 2 types). I'd consider changing GPs if s/he really said that to be honest.

You could try Simply Pure from Aquados. I bought a tub the other day, but my son who has eczema has gone to France for the summer and taken it with him; I did use it on one load before he went and it seemed to wash at least as well as the sensitive, which I normally use, and it smelled clean, but unscented.

(Aquados are great, I usually buy 4 laundry tubs & get a free one of dishwasher tabs - they use Lynx next-day delivery although my latest box took 2 )

I think it was more of a case of if his skin was broken from his eczema it was likely that is how he got the infection. He has had the rash for 5 weeks or so now. Problem is you can never see the same GP and two of them now have had different opinions to what is actually is. Will be off to see a third next week at this rate.

hi my little came out in eczema after using fairy non bio. Did not suit her at all. Ecover and Surcare are ok but for the best washing and the thing that cleared up her skin was aerial non bio liquid as its much kinder to skin than washing powders.
Unfortunately it can be a bit trial and error at this early stage until you find the product that suits your DS. It took a month at least to see a noticeable big improvment though so please remember to give them all a fair chance before you switch to the next etc..
As for the balls, they are ok for things that aren't too bad but I found they didn't get serious stains out x Hope this helps

fair enough FEP .. I've just been told some doozies by some GPs so I'm quite sensitive to their bollocks

I use Waitrose ultima concentrated liquid for sensitive skin - my eldest has eczema and this seeems the least irritant. I can't smell any fragrance in it - really notice the smell if I use Fairy or another non-bio. My DS had impetigo which GP thought was linked to his eczema and broken skin. No one else in our family of 6 got it - although being an embarrassed teen he had it for a few weeks before he told us. Further embarrassed by the GP's fascination with the development of the rash and his wish to record it for posterity with his digital camera! I thought impetigo was highly contagious so I was relieved when no one else in the family succumbed.DS needed 2 courses of antibiotics to get rid of it, but thankfully hasn't re occurred.
