Those magnetic tags on clothes

My dd3 was given a lovely cardigan recently by my aunt. It was her birthday present from April but we didn't see my aunt till June so that's when she got it. When I went to put it on dd3 I saw that it still had the magnetic grey tag that things have on to stop you stealing them! Now I am quite sure that my aunt didn't steal ths - and in fac I think when she gave it to us the receipt was still in the bag. That was when we were visiting my mum and dad though so I definately don't still have it. What can I do to get this tag off? Please help! Thanks

Take it to the shop where its from and explain its a present. Not all the tags alert the alarm, a high percentage are fakes.

I think proffessional shop lifters have gadgets that take them off. A shoplifter wouldn't have the front to go back and ask the shop to take it off!

that's true actually - they wouldn't would they? I automatically ruled that out as an option fearing they would accuse me bu

Rather than go into the shop, why don't you ring them and explain what has happened? Then you can walk into the store with the cardigan without it seeming as if you're making up the story?

This happened to me with something that we bought in a French hypermarket. There was obviously no likelihood of us going back there to take it back, so I went to Sainsbury. I had the receipt, but the customer services woman still refused to remove the tag! She said they 'weren't allowed', even though I had the receipt. I was so annoyed that I went and found the store manager, who was lovely, and removed it immediately for me.

Ooooh - that is a really good idea! Thanks

don't whateve you do try and remove it yourself....may either release a dye or even worse leave your item with a huge hole...!

A friend of mine bought a dress one sat ready for the night, once showered etc she realised the dress still had the tag attached iir she tried to remove it only to end up with half the item missing

Had this problem last weekend with 2 items my sister had purchased from Debenhams. Not only did they remove the tags as they should (and the alarm did not sound when I entered the store, so fat lot of good those tags do), but they gave me £10 cash as a goodwill gesture
