this one

she currently has a £12 jobby which is old and battered now, and very rattly. she has asked for a new red scooter for her 6th birthday. she is very tall for her age.

does anyone have the one above, and do they think its worth it?

she uses it daily, as takes it to school and plays on it. the £12 one is nearing the end of its life after 2years. i really want one that will last a bit longer than that this time. she loves her scooter, and has been rising it for 2years now.

it will be her main present.

bump for the evening crowd.

i have checked her current scooter and its an ozbozz nebulus beta. i could get another one of those as they are mega cheap but only come in pink or blue, not the red she wants. i also checked dd1 one, and its actually a micro scooter, but was under £30 IIRC as i got it in toys r us, and it does seem a lot more solid than the ozbozz one and doesnt rattle at all. and its a similar age to dd2 scooter as well.

We got this same scooter for ds for his last birthday (8yo ds who metes out real punishment to his stuff), we got it for #20 from a discount type local toy shop.
It stopped folding months ago, it never did fold well (mechanism seized up).
I don't think it's that expensive, expensive is one of the original micro-scooters which start at about #50 for a child's model.
We chose the Eco-bug because ds previously had one which was top quality and lasted for years without problems (it got stolen last year ).

The Ozbozz nebulus I bought for DS2 last year and it only lasted about 2 months, complete rubbish although I see them around a lot, so I guess they are ok for other people. Ours literally fell to bits and we are the sort of people who will have a go at repairing anything. Eco-bug one is much more solid, except for the fact it doesn't fold, I am happy enough with it.

i dont fold them. last time i tried to fold the ozbozz one the mechanism snapped off in my hands.

is it still a smooth ride for your ds? dd2 is saying the ozbozz one ids very rattly, anmd its true you can hear it rattling down the street on the way to school.

dd and ds have one of these each and they are EXCELLENT, so light and fast, I often sped along on it on the way to pick them up from school. Would highly recommend, they are excellent quality and leagues above Woolworth-type ones.

dinny · 30/06/2008 18:55

ours go to school and back on theirs, about 1 mile each way, we'd be sooooo late without them!

and both still fold after 2.5 years and 18 months respectively

peanutbutterkid · 30/06/2008 19:02

nebulus is rubbish ride even from new (wheels are shite, says me as ex-skater). Bug wheels & ride are good (ds concurs).

cool, so seems like a good buy then.

she prefers the scooter over a bike, so her bike was a £5 one from a car boot sale which she is very happy with (its a big car boot sale at the airfield in clacton, and there were loads of bikes to choose from, she spent ages choosing one).

would it be ok for a 5year old (size of 8year old) to last a good few years?

I think it would last to average size 12yo, misdee.

misdee · 30/06/2008 19:33

so age 8 for dd2 then lol! think we can cope with that.

I can ride ours no prob, Misdee, and I'm not short

Probably weight rather than height is the limiting factor, you see teenage boys on the same size scooters, but only skinny 14yos, not hulking 19yos.
