John Lewis Rotary washing line - am I doing something wrong or is it built for midgets?!

Got my new washing line last week - 50m rotary one from John Lewis. As recommended in Good Housekeeping it has adjustable heights, and they said "so you can have it low down to load, and then up high for drying". Only now it's here, I find that unless I'm doing something radically wrong, the highest position means the highest (outside) lines are about the height of my shoulder, and of course that means you have to bend down to load up the lower ones.

Anyone else got one? Am I missing something? I suppose I will get used to it (sigh) but I have been looking forward to getting a new washing line for weeks, rather than the old one which falls over, and now I am frustrated [stamps foot]!!

Sorry, no help, but this really made me laugh

That doesn't sound right, but not having one, I can't help either. Am rather at the mental image though!

Is the hole for it too wide? We swapped lines and found new one was narrower than normal, so had to find a new spike too

Are you sure you've got it on the highest setting? I speak as one who was hoovering with the vacuum pipe set at about 12 inches and cursing the manufacturers.

I can share your rotary washing line misery

My second washing line in about 3 months broke last week - the ground spike bent at the join. Not remembering what make it was or anything I bought a new spike at argos for 3 quid but it's very wide and a lot shorter than the last one so very low

I long for a luxury washing line... how sad is that? Defo thinking I belong in mental health now...

A good washing line is hot and sexy.
Speaking as someone who managed with a string tied between trees for many years, when third child arrived we bought the biggest most expensive Minky one from Argos, about £50 at the time. The height and convenience were brilliant, just the lines kept dropping off! I was gutted as it had been so fab for the washable nappies. My handy DH finally fixed it recently and I am full of joy again.

Sorry hellp much, just wanted to share!
