Don't want to buy another bed again-how long will a mid-sleeper last if I give in to dd?

DD (5) wants a midsleeper, I want a normal bed. "This" is the only one I like-would it last until she was a ripe old age? Don't mind changing it when she is a teenager but don't want to before that.

my 9 year old niece is still in a high sleeper bed. As long as it is a full sized single bed then it should do a good few years.

My dd has this bed from Argos. She has been in it for about a year now.

I hated ds being in a high sleeper. If he was ill, he was sometimes too weak to climb the ladder, and it was hard to go up evey night for cuddles etc. I found it a right pain when he was ill.

I bought it when he was 9, he'd grown out of it by 12... wouldn't get one again. The bars at the side meant he couldn't spread out, and it creaked whenever he turned over

She doesn't like the one I picked anyway! I love getting in with her to read her bedtime stories, and am fretting that I wouldn't be able to do that with a high one. However, she may learn to go to sleep on her own! Will she get over it if I get her a normal low down bed?

i would think it should last as long as any other single bed.... so long as she isnt that tall

Im 5ft 2 and have many good nights sleep in my ex-charges midi sleeper bed with a normal size single mattress!

fizzbuzz · 29/06/2008 21:39

Ds said it was like being in a cage...

Ilovebunting · 29/06/2008 21:44

You really hate them don't you fizz!

Weeeell, yes I do. How did you guess?

I thought they were great until ds got one.

Ilovebunting · 29/06/2008 22:02

I remember having a bunk bed and hating it, so have been reluctant to give in to demands! However, am worried it will be the one thing she always wanted and never got!! He he! And am worried that she will never go to bed ever again if I get her a nice low bed that she hates-but she wants one with a slide! There is no way she will stay in bed if she has a slide attached to her bed!

what about a cabin bed? - it is not as high as a mid-sleeper but still has the some of the storage e.g.

cabin bed

another one

p.s. my niece started with a bed with a slide before getting her high sleeper - it took up half the bedroom so wouldnt be an option unless your lo had a huge room

Ilovebunting · 29/06/2008 22:39

Thanks seona. The original dd criteria was "it has to have a ladder". So I found one with a ladder. That she hates. I've told her she can't have a slide one. She took herself off to bed in a huff-I am bad mum no.1! We don't need the storage at the mo, but need to move next year and the likelihood is that dd's room will be a lot smaller (we rent), so it could be useful. Shall I just tell her she's getting that one and should be grateful that I met her halfway?

Yes, if she doesn't like it - there's always the floor!

Ilovebunting · 30/06/2008 15:32

He he lewis, I always love your answers! ! She'll probably like it once it gets here!

ds still in his at 10, no sign of wanting anything else. We have a Flexa bed which can be a normal height or at various levels or in combinations so can evolve as child grows.

cece · 30/06/2008 18:25

DS has a high sleeper due to the smallness of his room. (storage of toys under bed.) He constantly asks for a normal bed - he doesn't like being high up!

It is difficult to climb into for myself. Especially when we play musical beds at 3 am.

However, once in I have a good nights sleep. (I am 5 foot 7)

Difficult to read stories - we use my bed then transfer to high sleeper for sleep.

If you could help it I would not get one.

Oh and DS's is from John Lewis - got it off eBay from a 13 year old boy who had had it 10 years. DS now had it for 12 months... Still going strong so good quality.

fizzbuzz · 30/06/2008 19:28

I agree with Cece. All the things she mentions I had problems with. Especially musical beds, I could not sleep up there

Ilovebunting · 30/06/2008 22:03

Right, am taking the initiative-I didn't want a midsleeper in the first place, she doesn't like the one I like, so she is having a normal bed! And if she doesn't like it, she sleeps on the floor! Ha! (she'll like the one I've chosen in a few years anyway!)
