need somthing to take away for our 4 month old to sleep in - couple of nights in a cottage, couple camping etc. would also like to use when at friends/grand parents etc!

www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3760172/Trail/searchtext%3ETRAVEL+COT.htm this is reduced in argos?
is something else better?

do the ones with a bigger age range really work for older babies?

I had one exactly the same (but a samsonite) for my DD to use at my parents. it was great until she was almost 7 months and she ourgrew it and I had to buy the bubble one for up to 18 months which will be OK for us as she's not a great roller in bed. Some babies are though and then then become more like a hamster in a wheel!!

To be hoest as I've had to buy the next size up i wished i never bought the smaller one in the first place and just gone for the bigger one first. Rookie mistake (one of many!).

We have the Hauck Dream 'n' play and our little girl still sleeps in it at 2.5. It's probably a bit big and heavy to take camping.

I've found it quite sensitive to the order in which it's folded and unfolded. If you try to do things in the wrong order it doesn't fold and you have to go back and start again.

It hasn't been heavily used, but the loop used to pull up the base has come adrift and the zip on the bag is broken.

All in all, it's adequate, but not that great.

Oops. The dream 'n' Play isn't a pop up travel cot. Sorry, not paying enough attention.

elfsmummy · 26/06/2008 21:48

We've got the older version of this one

It doesn't "pop up" you thread the poles through like you would a tent.

My 2.2 year old can still sleep in it fairly comfortably.

Bit more pricey but would last for longer?

gigglewitch · 26/06/2008 21:52

we have a hardly-used samsonite one to sell
if you like this kind?

jimbotri · 27/06/2008 12:02

I agree with elfsmummy. The little life cots are great, we also had the older version of the arc2 one. Our ds lasted to about 2 years old in it with no problem.

They are also very light weight we took our on holiday many times

I think the 5% discount 'mumsnet' coupon code for this shop still works.

gigglewitch - was wondering up to what age your travelcot was?

think it is 18 mo/2yrs. in practice 18mo is more like the real world answer, no way a 2yo would want to stay in it. DD happily used it at 18mo tho, thought it was good fun!
my email's on ma profile too.

I got one from Asda at home last year for just £25 and it's great, but you must follow the instructions for assembling and dismantling or it frustrates the hell out of you. Think the make is Red Kite...

solo · 28/06/2008 02:00

It's a pop up one too, has it's own carry case and I've used it as a playpen too{grin}

Or you could just put a small inflatable mattress on the floor and save yourself the hassle and the money.
