Can I return Clarks shoe's if they obviously don't fit DD's feet at all?

I took my DD1 (21 months) to be fitted for some new shoes at Clarks today. The fitter was a bit slack but DD2 (3 months) was sceaming blue murder so was a bit distracted and didn't pay much attention to what she was doing.

Did all the usual checks, got DD1 to walk up and down, she did a bit of feeling around and declared shoes a perfect fit. In my desperation to leave shop said i'd take shoes...without looking myself, paid and left.

Tried shoes on at home and they are like boats on her, half a size bigger than she measured up, they are far to wide even with the velcro pulled as tight as possible and her heels flap in and out when she walks around, they look ridiculous.

The shoes haven't been worn can I take them back and tell them they don't fit?

I feel really angry that I pay so much for these blimmin shoes and feel guilty if I don't buy proper fitted shoes and they don't even fit at all. This is only her second pair of shoes so don't have much experience, is it common for them to get the fit so wrong?

Yes take them back. I usually find that my DD1 who has very narrow feet is a bit of a nightmare to fit and the less experienced fitters always get it wrong. I usually get them checked by the manager of the store.

SoupKitchen · 24/06/2008 22:01

Take them back this happened to me. Ask for the manager they should fit her properly and give the sales girl a telling off. They are trained to do their job which involves working with tantruming toddlers

Elmosgirl · 24/06/2008 22:01

Thanks, and DD2 was obviously screaming not sceaming.

Definitely take them back. I don't think you will have any problems doing so when they see that they don't fit.

Elmosgirl · 24/06/2008 22:05

Thanks i'm just worried that they will tell me that they do fit and are fine. I know nothing about shoe fitting really but they just don't seem right to me.

take them back

happened to me with dd1 once , few years back, she got blisters within hours of wearing them

i got a refund

this is why i dont buy from clarks if at all possible, i have had too much grief with being sold the wrong size shoe

PigeonPie · 24/06/2008 22:08

Do you have another shoe shop in the area where you can get a second opinion? Then you can take them back to the original shop having checked that they are 'not fit for purpose'.

Friendlypizzaeater · 24/06/2008 22:09

I've took shoes back before that had been fitted by Clarks - the last lot my LO had climbed a wall in them playing and scuffed them on the front but I stood my ground and they gave me a refund - helped that my LO had blisters on his heels from them

fishie · 24/06/2008 22:09

oh i HATE THIS. fit shoes to feet, not feet to shoes. take back, go to independent, be happy. the end.

funnypeculiar · 24/06/2008 22:10

I've done this before - and been given a refund. One of the reasons I don't use Clarks if i can avoid it.

Elmosgirl · 24/06/2008 22:10

Lou33 - where do you buy shoes from, do you still get them fitted, or just buy and check yourself.

From seeing how Clarks have done it this time I really think I would do a better job at going somewhere else and get shoes for her and check the fit with her myself.

But then comes the guilt of not having DD in 'properly' fitted shoes.

usually i just check and fit myself now, not so much with dd1 , as she is now 16 (!), but the others yes

i do occasionally have to buy from the clarks range, but the place i go to is not a clarks store, he just sells them alongside other shoes, and he is GOOD at fitting, as the rest of his staff are, so have had no problems

but clarks stores imo, rubbish

Milliways · 24/06/2008 22:19

I took a pair back that had been worn to school (walking both ways + playground for break etc) when DD said they hurt after 1 day.

No quibbles - they could see the red marks on her feet. She just got a new pair, but it was a pian having to go back into town on a weekday after school.

Elmosgirl · 24/06/2008 22:22

I'm just annoyed really that

  1. she measured as a size 5 and I have come home with a 5 and a half, yes I should have checked myself but was stressed and just assumed fitter would have put the right sized shoes on her.

  2. They had NO choice of styles so brought her same shoes as last time in a bigger size....I told the fitter that last time she ended up needing a width thinner than she measured to get the shoes to fit better as this style seem quite a generous fit, but she ignored that and just put her in the size of the measuring board and didn't even try any other sizes on to compare.

Mainly I am annoyed with myself for taking someone else's word that they were ok and not thinking to check myself or question what she was doing.

ah but in clarks speak, they measure up as one size, you go home with another, because, as i was told, the measuring is only a starting point

they never have any decent range in stock

and they ahve always ended up trying to sell me shoes bigger than they originally said (or smaller)

PillockOfTheCommunity · 24/06/2008 22:29

I never had any problems with ds1 and Clarks shoes, but they have been dreadful for ds2. I took him to a local shoe shop that stock Clarks and Start-rite and got him fitted there instead (in Clarks I was at the till about to enter my pin when I noticed he'd kicked one shoe off without having to touch it!). He now has a much better fitting style of Start-rite shoes, still proper shoes and fitted, but much more choice.

Eebs · 24/06/2008 22:30

Just took back a pair the other day for same reason. No problems. Definitely take them back, it's a pain but they really won't care.
