Can anyone recommend a small car with a big gap between the front and back seats?

Can you tell me about your cars please?
I need to change mine - I have a Renault Megane. I love it and it is only 2 years old, so would like to keep it. BUT it uses quite a bit of fuel considering it is a relatively new car and DD's feet are now resting on the back of my seat when I put her in her car seat, even when she is in the most upright position - shes only 18mo but tall and she kicks me through the whole journey, plus it isn't very safe if we had a crash. I tried moving her to behind the passenger seat but then neither DH or I can get in the passenger seat as it has to be so far forward. It's getting to be a problem since DH and I are both tall and I'm pregnant so am fed up with being squished up in the front. I don't want a big car - the smaller the better really as only me and DD in it most of the time - plus bump. Would love to find a little fuel efficient one with a bigger gap between the 2 rows of seats...

our golf is good - lots of room.

Toyota Yaris is surprisingly roomy and comes in a 1.4 diesel which only costs £35 per year to tax.

would the car seat go in the middle, or do you think she could reach to kick both front seats then?

LenniEd · 24/06/2008 20:37

moshie its an ISOFIX car seat so unfortunately it won't go in the middle, otherwise that would be the perfect solution - I never thought of that. The only other option would be to put her in the front passenger seat, but I am a bit of a safety freak when it comes to cars so wouldn't be happy with her there.

Mercedes A-Class... the long wheel base version. The back seat can be moved backwards or forwards so you either have tonnes of legroom for backseat passengers... or extra room in the boot. Fabulous!

Hi Lennied, I have a Punto Grande (5 door) with Isofix seat. DS sits behind passenger seat with plenty space to kick his legs

Thanks Gloria and saltcod - I will have a look at those. Would imagine the mercedes will be out of my price range though, but would be nice if it wasn't.
