Where can I find size 10 school shoes for a 12-year-old?

My granddaughter is aged 12, and has just outgrown her adult size 9 shoes.
Where on earth am I likely to find shoes that fit, are suitable for school, and are acceptable to an almost teenager?

Vinted sell a lot of larger shoes. Some brand new.
M and S do a 9 in some styles

Xmasbaby11 · 16/06/2026 23:29

It’s adult shoes now I’m afraid. Even my daughter with size 6 feet usually has to buy adult shoes for school, just plain black ones.

Used to get my sons school shoes from deichman

Mossstitch · 17/06/2026 00:37

I was in Wyndsors yesterday, they had loads of Kickers that are popular with school children and pretty unisex so go that big.

Evans or long tall Sally. Both available online

Doc Marten shoes (not the boots, they also do a shoe). They're unisex and go up to about size 13. Not cheap but very good.

Next Men’s section

I’m glad someone has suggested Magnus. I was your granddaughter 50 years ago and hated when people suggested men’s shoes. I didn’t want men’s shoes, I wanted pretty shoes like my friends had but ended up having to wear shoes my grandmother would have rejected for being frumpy. Thankfully things have improved a bit since the 1970s.
You could also try Josef Siebel which has some larger sizes. Next apparently go up to 10 too. Don’t let her try to squeeze her feet into size 9 just because they are available. I gave myself hammer toes doing that.

PotatoBreadForTheWin · 17/06/2026 06:03

Came to say DMs but I see someone else already has. next and long tall sally also have bigger sizes.

My sympathies to your granddaughter, I feel her pain as a former massive footed child! It’s hard enough as an adult but so grim as a teen when everyone else is wearing lovely trendy things that don’t come in your size

Kickers aren’t unisex, and women’s only go up to a (quite small fitting) size 8

Toms do womens shoes up to a size 10. They have some black leather shoes. Worth a look?

LittleMerrymaid · 17/06/2026 06:19

Cinderella shoes who are based in Ireland and do online sales are very good, as are Magnus of Northampton.

I think ASOS also do sizes up to 10.

This directory is also very useful

Try buying adult women’s shoes if you’re size 10. Most only go up to an 8.

LanyardSpaghetti · 17/06/2026 07:33

I've found LTS shoes (and clothing) to be poor quality (though not the original stuff, if you can find some of that pre-loved). Magnus is my go to for finding footwear, or I wander around some shops and browse the men's section for the most appropriate for whatever I'm seeking.

ladymalfoy · 17/06/2026 07:37

Clarke's. My 12 DD is a 9 at the moment. But Clarke's or Docs in September.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 17/06/2026 07:39

I’m a size 9. I wear plan black lace up DMs, which go up and up and up in sizes, but I need to wear them with a robust insole (eg Superfeet) as they are really wide! You can get them without the trademark stitching if this is a problem. If you DGD’s school allow them - my children’s school does. If they are quite lax, then plain black Airforce 1s?

Good luck.
I can live with bad eyesight, curly hair and a permanent additional 2 stone, but I would love to change the size of my feet.

whatsadentist · 17/06/2026 08:03

Oh my word can I relate to this! When I was 11 I was a size 8. This was in 1971, and size 8s were as rare as hens teeth. I ended up wearing men’s shoes to school, and getting teased for it. I’m now in my 60s and take a size 9, I go to Deichmann, they do size 10 in some styles but you have to be lucky with timings. I also wear men’s shoes depending on what I’m after.

PUER125 · 17/06/2026 09:24

Thank you everyone. Lots of choice here thank goodness.

Honestly, there’s no need for any female to be wearing men’s shoes nowadays given the amount of companies now specialising in larger sized shoes for women.

This is another one I forgot about - After 8.

LittleMerrymaid · 17/06/2026 14:54

Op, Crispins have a huge range of loafers and trainers.
