Father’s Day gifts- diabetic

Looking for ideas on what to get for my grandpa for Father’s Day. He’s diabetic and loves sweet things so good places for chocolate or hampers would be great. We’ve struggled on getting tasty things in the oast

Diabetic chocolate and biscuits or sweets are not to be recommended, they contain sugar alcohols which have a laxative effect. Also, it’s often not much lower in carb than normal stuff

most 85% cocoa dark chocolate is pretty low in carb - around 20g per 100g of chocolate, and it’s hard to eat lots so the carb per portion is pretty low.

dark chocolate coated almonds are nice, again watch the carb count

Is he type 1 or type 2? T1s can have a bit more leeway as they can inject insulin to deal with more carbs in a treat.

id be tempted to look for a non-edible treat

Thanks for that, he is T2 probably brought about by lifestyle to be honest! Food is his joy as much as I’d love to avoid it I probably cant, good point about the dark chocolate though

Ok, so if he is a foodie, definitely don’t get the specialist diabetic products, they mostly taste very inferior to the real thing for little health benefit.

if his diet allows cheese, a fancy cheese delivery? Cheese has very little effect on blood sugar levels.

I agree that something that isn't sweet per se would be a better option, like a posh cheese delivery as suggested or something like around-the-world snack subscription box type of thing, but you need to look at the ingredients and carb counts first.
Does the gift have to be food related? Could it be something entirely different, like tickets to an event he would enjoy or a class he would be interested to attend, or a day out planned in advance, etc? Are you seeing him in person on the actual day? If not, you can make a Father's day slideshow with family photos and pictures of him and send it to him via emil/social media as a part of the gift.

Thanks, it probably does need to be food related, its all that brings him joy really. There is a lot of difficulty in the family dynamics so nice sentimental type or experiency gifts just don't work.

Am looking at cheese types of things.
