Coorie / Kimmer vs Hotsling. Calling PIFFLE or anyone who knows these things:)

Hmm well... I've been browsing these threads for months now and now I am less than 5 weeks away from dc2 coming along I need to get my act together.

I had decided I wanted a Kimmer - but it looks like they don't sell them anymore. Surely a Coorie wil be too hot for my July baby??

Argh.

Looking around - hotslings seem similar. Am I right or is there a subtle difference I'm not aware of? Please help - any advice and tips would be really appreciated!!

Tia

I started off with a coorie (January baby) then moved on to a hotsling as the weather improved. As far as I can see they're pretty much the same apart from the material. The only reason that I didn't buy a kimmer was that I preferred the patterns of the hotslings lol

I found them good to wear around the house, specially when playing with older dc or trying to get anything done as ds hated being put down. However, for long trips out I found them uncomfy and much preferred my wrap sling as carrying only on one shoulder is limiting imho

I have a hotsling, it's fab, can't wait to use with the dt's due Sept as ds2 enjoyed it so much. I have looked at coories & kimmers, I would have bought a kimmer instead of hotsling but they're not that easy to buy quite frankly (and clearly not at all now!) - couldn't see the diff. Hotsling has a padded section for their legs, most of the materials avail. have a slight stretch (although I would suggest not getting one of the sateen-style fabrics, pretty as they are, I have sweetpea because they're quite slippy). If you're fairly sure which size you'll be in either, try Yahoo UK Babywearing swap as hotslings come up quite often (and a few coories in case you want one when dc2 is a bit older).
BB is right, though, they're only good for short trips, round the house etc which I found a godsend (fab when you need some milk at the shop!) but I've also just bought a mei-tei and I'm going to try a hugabub too for longer trips.

that's good to know that they seem prety much alike.....

i loved my coorie, but i used it for a december baby and will again for a halloween baby.

alittlebitshy · 21/06/2008 20:31

also i think I'd use it mainly on the school run - between the car the the school when the pram might be too cumbersome...

ooh - need to look at other sorts for "other occasions" lol now. was thinkng an ergo, but am open to suggestions.

Ergo's fine when they're older (although I personally don't think mine is very comfy thus purchasing a few more!) but the newborn insert looks a right faff if you already have another child! I've just bought an eden carrier, which is made out of velveteen so nice & soft. Can wear on front & back like an ergo but straps instead of buckles. If you really like the ergo, consider a Sleepy Nico or a Connecta (ergo have a bad reputation!) I think a few people have said hugabubs, moby, kari-me etc too hot for summer. The UK babywearing group is v.helpful and there's always loads of different things for sale. Is there a slingmeet near you so you could try a few things out?

mymblemummy · 22/06/2008 00:34

I love my SleepyNico but it is intended for babies at least three months old, so one to think of for later.
How about a mei tai? It leaves your hands free, doesn't get too hot and can be used with a newborn.

accessorizequeen · 22/06/2008 19:52

Didn't realise that! I'd just heard good things about it as an alternative to the ergo, same with connecta. The Eden carrier is a mei tei, or maybe the close baby carrier which is a cross between a wrap & a ring sling, many mumsnetters quite keen.

brightspeak slings who do the coorie also do a peerie which is the same design but in a light fabric. i have one of each. peerie hasn't had much use but i've been glad to have it on super hot days. coorie has been an absolute godsend and i wouldn't have been without it. mei tei good but not quick and easy like coorie. i think every home with a baby shoudl have a pouch sling and also a carrier e.g mei tei, ergo, beco etc.

brightspark i mean
