LAB Diamond Earrings

Please can someone advise if they have bought LAB diamond earrings and been delighted with them in terms of quality and sparkle? Prices online seem to vary. Been to the local jewellers however they were keen to sell me natural diamonds. Would be grateful for advice. Thank you.

I had a diamond engagement ring and it was beautiful and exactly same (actually perhaps better) than real diamond

I have a lab diamond ring and I love it. A mined diamond of the same size, colour and clarity would have been far beyond my budget. My advice would be to get solitaire earrings as you will really see the diamond sparkle, it's a waste getting clusters as you're paying for the setting more than the stones.

The prices are about supply and demand, real diamonds are natural so would be "limited" in stock.

Lab grown diamonds are becoming cheaper as the markets get flooded with them.

I would try and find a retailer that has both so you can compare, as the sparkle is what's its about (for me), I've got my eye on these, but like you I'm not sure as if they dont sparkle like my engagement ring might as well go cheaper and get CZ.

You should look up Anna Sisteron on Instagram - a high profile wealthy fashion influencer - she single handedly dismantles the lab vs natural debate. In sum- you need to verify if Iab or natural using specialist equipment. Can’t be done with the naked eye. And the difference is lab diamonds are laser stamped and flawless. They ARE diamonds

There is vast amounts of snobbism in the argument. Natural demands are hugely abundant and supply is restricted to keep the price high. However prices are dropping.

Currently lab diamonds do not retain their value on the secondary market (see snobbism above). So your best value lab (or indeed natural) diamond is likely to be one bought at auction

Lab diamonds have the same cuts, and clarity and colour gradings as natural diamonds, so there should be no difference in the sparkle of the same cut and grade stone.

The difference is that a larger diamond of a higher clarity and nearer to colourless is vastly more affordable than a mined diamond - for the same price you would either get much smaller mined diamond, or one of lower quality with more inclusions or visible colouration.

If you are buying as an investment or heirloom piece there is an argument to avoid lab diamonds as they don't hold their value anything like as well as mined diamonds. Otherwise, aesthetically, there's no difference to the naked eye.

bought lab grown diamonds from tjc. (the jewellery channel).
very pleased with them. came in a box that lights up on opening. very fancy for a gift idea.

something like a fifth of a carat so very believable (as they should be considering they are indeed real diamonds) for £40. really white and sparkly. product 8493472. same whiteness and sparkle as my mined diamond engagement ring that cost over a grand.

When I was younger, it was all called Cubic Zirconia. It shouldn't be expensive at all, compared to diamonds, because it's not a diamond.

All jewellery can be beautiful. Many celebrities wear costume jewellery.

And I know the technicalities of the "differences" between CZ and lab... a rose by any other name.........and all that...

My engagement ring is a lab diamond solitaire and it is beautiful and so so sparkly. I absolutely love it.

Anonmousse · 15/04/2026 20:03

Im a jeweller, I work with diamonds every day, and you cant tell the difference, by eye or even with a loupe, or microscope. In fact the LG are usually better (in terms of light and sparkle) than natural because they are usually a high colour D-E and clarity. There would be no point creating a poor quality lab grown diamond.

They are chemically the same structure, the same on a mohs scale of hardness and behave in the same way eg, we know what amount of heat they can be subjected to.

They definitely aren't the same as CZs or mossanites or other alternatives to diamonds. I can easily spot czs but you need specialist equipment to identify a lab grown diamond.

Er, no. CZ is not a 'lab diamond'.

Not the same at all.

HowAmYa · 15/04/2026 21:23

FYI
Lab grown ARE REAL diamonds
They are categorically NOT CZ!

TalulahJP · 15/04/2026 21:23

lab diamonds are real diamond chips that are grown into bigger diamonds. just like in the ground how a diamond grows except the diamond chips are put in a hot pressurised container of some sort to imitate the pressure and heat in the ground.

they are not cubic zirconia. they are diamonds.

someone described it as the difference between ice from outside in the arctic and ice made in a tray in your freezer. exact same contents.
just the source of temperature etc that differs.
the product is chemically the same.

notatinydancer · 15/04/2026 21:24

Yes I’ve got some earrings. 1 carat. They are lovely and sparkly. Equally as much as my natural diamond ring.
can’t remember how much they were.

HaveYouHadYourBreak · 15/04/2026 21:54

I have some sparkly lab diamond studs from Rachel Galley. They look the same as a (perfect) natural diamond to my eye.

If you want it to look like a natural diamond, I think you need to consider the size though. If I walked around with a 2ct perfect diamond ring, everyone would know it wasnt a natural diamond. My earrings are 0.3ct (or maybe 0.5ct) and a classic cut so I think they look realistic. Although I dont actually care if people thing they are natural diamonds or not.

If you want SPARKLY though, look at Moissanite. No idea about hardness tc compared to a diamond but they look like super sparkly diamonds and you get lovely rainbow flashes in the right light. I think they are the "original lab grown diamond".

Diamonds are harder than moissanite (10 on MOHs scale vs approx 9.5 for moissanite).

Moissanite gives off more radiance but is not as pure in colour.

HaveYouHadYourBreak · 15/04/2026 22:03

To clarify, before I get told off by saying Moissanite is "the original lab grown diamond" I mean it was produced to look realistically like a diamond, and used in the same way and withstands life in the same way.

I love a CZ as well but they get dull and scratch very easily. If you keep a CZ pendent on 24/7 it would stop sparkling very quickly.
