Saw this and thought about buying it but with the postage I'm not sure if it would be a good deal or not (not being normally v interested in trains!) anyone know if this is worth bidding on. I see J Lewis do a simplish set for £20 so feeling a big confused silly i know.

If you are near a Toyzone toyshop they are having a 'takeover sale' and EVERYTHING is 50% 0ff. Brio EVERYWHERE.

Tesco have identical track to brio so ytou can get some bits from there and they will fit any brio you buy.

The link doesn't work - not that I can do them cos I can't.

brill advice cabbage. will hotfoot it to tesco. trying not to spend a fortune so thanks for the tip. not sure about Toyzone so will have a look. oh pants. sorry about the link!

My dad has bought loads of Brio from car boot sales for a few quid. DS now has stacks of it.

Def best place to buy as it never wears out.

savoycabbage · 18/06/2008 14:12

You can get some in IKEA too but the track isn't as good as the Tesco ones and the nobbly bits are plastic instead of wood so they don't join together as well.

my DS is desperate for a train set... I just had images of them being very pricey so it's great to know we can customize a little more cleverly. thanks so much. xx

John Lewis stuff, although Brio compatible, isn't as strong, IMO. We've got a mixture of the 2, and lots of the JL ones have snapped and splintered.

Kewcumber · 18/06/2008 16:53

depends on age the really cheap IKEA one is good enough for my 2 yr old but probably not for an olde child.

misdee · 18/06/2008 16:56

i am considering selling the dd's train set from tesco. it was well worth the money, but it doersnt get used anymore

Kewcumber · 18/06/2008 17:01

I'd offer to buy it Misddee but suspect that the postage costs might be prohibitive on those wooden thigns.

misdee · 18/06/2008 17:04

can get a courier for upto 30kg for £6.

will let u know if i decide to sell.

TotalChaos · 18/06/2008 17:05

Brio is brilliant quality - DS has my set from 25 years ago!

mumtoboys · 18/06/2008 19:20

I got loads of Brio from Ebay for £15 but it can be really expensive. You can search for stuff near to you.

I'd get Tesco track and Brio trains. Brio do a lovely push along with coal that lights up and my boys have Big Green And Big Red. We have all types of track and not much between them. Save your money for some nice trains and maybe a building or bridge. The Tesco turntable is fab value for money. Was only a fiver and has endured my twin boys no probs at all. We have cheap bridges and tunnels that are brilliant too.
