Geox trainers for boys. Are they really all that....?

My ds(9) seems to get through trainers at a frightening rate. He's had expensive ones, cheap ones, branded and non-branded. They all fall apart after a few weeks. Not to mention the fact his feet reek when wearing the cheapo ones. I'm thinking of getting him some Geox ones but just wanted to know if they were really all they're made out to be. Do the ventilation holes really keep out the water or is this a load of old b*cks? Do they withstand all the abuse that a 9 year old can throw at them? I'd love to hear any experiences, positive & negative.

I love Geox shoes and trainers. They withstand everything my two year old puts them through and her feet don't get hot and sweaty in them. She is in a pair of unbranded ones at the moment and I wish I had got another pair of Geox for her.

My DD has some geox trainers and find them very hard wearing and comfortable. Bought them in france a year ago and still going strong.

not sure about the ventilation holes keeping out the water though.

I would say yes - this is on the basis of having had three pairs, for two boys, 5 & 3. I can't comment on the stinky feet aspect as they are too young but they do get a lot of abuse and wear very well - the rubber bumpers seem to be in just the right place so the leather itself doesn't get too scuffed. I have bought mine from eBay for much less than retail, two pairs were lightly used second hand and in excellent condition, one pair new. The used ones really were in great shape and I would recommend this as a cheap way to try them. They fit wide btw - which is great for my boys as they are both H in Clarks. HTH

My ds saw the adverts for them a while back and was desperate for a pair. I gave in and bought them but a few weeks later i noticed that he had returned to his old pair.
Turned out that the Geox were really uncomfortable for him but he was that desperate for them that he wouldn't tell me. Waste of money for us.

peachygirl · 17/06/2008 20:24

I bought some kids ones for myself and they lasted 3 years.

jellyforbrains · 17/06/2008 20:25

My DS (nearly 4) has some geox trainers. Only because they were the main brand that my shoe shop had in at the time we bought them - hadn't heard of them before.

They are nice and have not become scuffed, but the only problem I have with them is that they are really stiff to put on and hard for him to open enough to put his foot in. Fine if I am putting them on him, but not if I'm in a rush and want him to get his own shoes on. The tongue gets pushed down a bit if he does them himself (or actually if anyone but me or DH puts them on him). There is a bit of a technique to putting them on (holding tongue bit firmly and prising open velcro part with other hand!) that is quite fiddly.

Maybe I have a funny pair though!

I was also thinking about getting them from ebay as I live in rural France and not near any stockists. Vertbaudet catalogue are selling them for 68? which is roughly £50 odd quid which is more than on ebay but I could send them back if they're not right. Where did you get yours forevercleaning?

Geox last forever, whatever dcs put them through.

notasheep · 17/06/2008 20:31

dd had Geox-they didnt last very long at all.
Clarks have lasted the longest

bunjies · 17/06/2008 20:31

I'm definitely not putting on his shoes for him, the smell would knock me out for the rest of the day

He's a really active 9 year old and loves playing footie and skipping at school, yes even the boys skip over here! So his shoes don't last very long as a result. I'm basically wondering whether I should get him something like Geox or one of the sporty brands like Nike (ugh).

I have bought Geox before and they are hardwearing but I could not afford them this time and got Merrells which have been jsut as good and were £15 cheaper.

bunjies · 19/06/2008 10:54

Ooh I like Merrell. Do they do them in childrens sizes then? My ds is only a size 31 (UK12). I thought they were only for adults. Where did you get them from?

ds has had about 4 pairs of geox trainers, a pair of sandals and snow boots(which also had holes but never leaked!) over hte past few years. Had Merrells before that - you can get most of the adult style ones form size 10 . They all lasted well and he wouldn't choose another pair if they hadn't been comfy.
