Puky Bike or Islabikes Rothan for tall 3 year old?

mumtoboys · 17/06/2008 14:18

He's just over 100cm not sure exactly as he never keeps still!! I want to get one for the school run and the Rothan looks a bit smaller than the Puky XL.

Does anyone have any experience with either?

Thanks

If he's tall why not the Islabike Cnoc14 or 16? If you want him to learn to balance first you can leave the pedals off.

Puky?
Is there really a bike called 'Puky'?

I know what you mean about the name. It's German. Just found Likeabike jumper adjusts a bit taller too but even more expensive

I bought a great one from ebay which is like a likeabike and totally adjustable but much cheaper. I'll just dig it out for you because they sell lots of them new.

PortAndLemon · 17/06/2008 18:23

We have a Puky for DS (probably around the same age as yours) and he really likes it.

PortAndLemon · 17/06/2008 18:24

Height, not age. D'oh. Trying to multitask too much...

mumtoboys · 17/06/2008 19:12

Has he got the XL one PortandLemon?

I'm thinking Islabike might be better because if DS1 doesn't get on can hand on to DS2 sooner as it's smaller ... can always get bigger one later. DS2 is 1 on Friday but much more into physical stuff whereas DS1 often doesn't take to things IYKWIM.

We got it for him when he was 2 and have just kept putting the seat up. Not sure if it's the XL or not -- how do I tell?

pootleflump · 17/06/2008 19:27

DD has the likeabike jumper which is fab as it was small enough for her to ride from her 2nd birthday but has a spare seat post to extend it once the original has extended to it's max. I think the Islabike looks great as well though and we're currently looking at getting the CNOC for dd next.

selby · 17/06/2008 23:25

DS was approx the same height just before he turned 4 and we got him the Islabike CNOC16 and he's fine on it.

Amphibimum · 17/06/2008 23:27

dont know the other, but ds2 loves his puky. and being short of leg he had to wait to grow into in... so poss a recommendation for your long-legged offspring.

AlienSwampMonster · 17/06/2008 23:31

My (tall) 4-year-old loves messing around on his 2-year-old brother's Rothan. Islabikes are STUNNING things!

Astrophe · 17/06/2008 23:47

My DC have a normal sized Puky (middle ne, you can get a small, normal and an XL I think?). DD is 100cm,she is fine on it size wise, although we do have the saddle a bit low for her as a compromise as DS is only 90cm, with stumpy legs! Hope that helps. I imagine the XL Puky would be fine for your DS and gve him room to grow. They are excellent bikes, really sturdy.

As an aside, my kids have never really used it as a means of 'transport' more as a 'practice balance' fun activity. - they would never use it for nursery run. They tend to do a few circuits of the patio, or laps of the path, then hop off and use their scooters, which we do use for the nursery run. Its def teaching them balance, and they do love it, but if you don't already have a scooter for your DS, I would sugest a Mini Micro Scooter...fab,fab,fab.

Astrophe · 17/06/2008 23:50

Meant to say, I see a little boy who lives near us out on his Puky bike though, rolling along by him Mother on the school run, so obviously different children use them differently.

mumtoboys · 18/06/2008 09:03

Yes ... Im thinking it will probably teach him balance and transport might be a bonus. We have a park out the back he can practise in. Where can you get the mini micro scooter? Thanks

OP posts:
AlienSwampMonster · 18/06/2008 09:39

Mini micros really ARE fab! DS2 has been on one since he was 15 months old (scooting properly for longish trips a couple of months later). You can get them from John Lewis or from the UK distributor.

mumtoboys · 18/06/2008 15:00

How small does mini scooter fold up? Would it go the basket on my bike as I push DS2 to playgroup in child seat on my bike.

OP posts:
AlienSwampMonster · 18/06/2008 16:40

It comes apart in two bits quite easily but I don't think it would fit in a bike basket.

Astrophe · 18/06/2008 19:56

mine fits in the basket under the buggy - not sure about bike basket though.
