Boys' trousers that don't fall down

I don't know if I'm alone in this but almost all the trousers I buy for my DS (4) tend to slip down and he has to keep pulling them back into the right position. The school ones with the elastic you can adjust are better than most but tracksuit bottoms for example are a real pain. Does anyone have recommendations for brands or styles that are better?

I’m struggling with this one @Blueyelloworange

Clearly you are buying trousers too large for your son

GreenBananaSmoothie · 07/03/2026 08:03

My ds is very skinny so nothing stays up! George clothing is a complete no go as it all seems to be designed for sturdy kids.

Next do slim fit joggers that are OK

Otherwise we tend to choose other styles of trousers. H&M had some adjustable corduroy trousers over the winter. Chinos and jeans are often a bit slimmer fitting (although I dont really like kids in stiff jeans, I think they're uncomfortable).

I have this problem with my DS. I've found the Asda easy on half-elasticated trousers fit best for school, and skinny fit Next for joggers. He's tiny so they don't actually look skinny 😂

But really, it's a pain but you just have to try stuff on them as everything fits differently. After the success with Asda school trousers I ordered their jeans and joggers, and they fell off him.

Next is the best for this I think

FebruaryClouds · 07/03/2026 08:29

Next slim fit, and I also found Morrisons boys joggers were pretty good

It's a common problem with slender kids. E.g. you need to buy age 5 for the height, but the waist is too big for them and if you size down they won't be long enough.

We buy a lot of stuff from Lindex and some from H&M as they often have buttons inside the waist to allow you to make it smaller.

Thanks everyone! Looks like I'm off to next and asda!

If i buy any smaller around the waist, they end up being too short! So I'll try slimmer styles.

Braces?

PoachedSmoke · 07/03/2026 08:39

Next slim fit!!! I have two very thin teens with really long legs and Next trousers are the only ones I haven't had to adjust myself.

Also, think about a small stretchy belt - especially good with cotton trousers.

Lostthetastefordahlias · 07/03/2026 08:52

+1 for H&M corduroys - the ones with an adjustable elastic waist inside are great as they also have a popper which makes it easy for DS to open when needed, joggers etc we do the drawstrings up tightly but then he can’t get to the loo!! Also Vertbaudet UK do a “Narrow hips” range which are good - they take a little longer to arrive but if you search “narrow hips” on their website they have a range of styles.

QuickBlueKoala · 07/03/2026 09:14

Go for unisex colours from the girls section. Most boys trousers seem to be cut for nappies/overweight children.

Geneticsbunny · 07/03/2026 13:14

H and m, boden and la redoute are all good for skinny kids

lifehappens12 · 07/03/2026 16:53

I have this issue with my skinny son. I take them in at the side. I see a few simple stitches into the waists bands to make them smaller

Burntt · 07/03/2026 18:47

Boden if you can afford it. I buy it second hand but they are usually adjustable. Or go with jeans with belt loops and either a belt or suspenders- I used to love how cute by skinny boy was with his grandad style outfits 🤣. Avoid joggers.

At 4 you can probably still get away with dungarees too. If you don’t mind a faf to use the toilet

M&S joggers are often skinny fit. Georg/Asda are really good as well for joggers multipacks - they also have skinny fits.
I've also bought school uniform trousers from Tu (= Sainsbury's/Argos/Habitat brand)

BeansBeforeBedtime · 12/03/2026 20:14

Next. I've got a tall, slim 8yo and my 3yo is wearing his old clothes too. We go for slim/skinny fit.

I've paid £20 for the next day delivery and pay in 3 too. I order a few different options so we can try on at home and it's really convenient to return to store.
