What foods do you stock up on?

I’m trying to get my cupboards a bit more organised. I want to see quickly what I have. I tend to buy things on offer, but I don’t always have room for everything. Thinking of keeping it simple, keeping ‘essentials’ and only stocking up when it’s a really good deal.

So far on my list:

Tinned tomatoes
Black beans
Baked beans
Noodles
M&S Olive Oil Mayo (as I don’t get to M&S often, so grab it when I can)

I meal plan and cook from scratch most nights. Do you do it this way or buy the more unusual, expensive products when on offer? What do you buy on repeat?

I’m having a larder area put in under the stairs, and I’m planning on stocking 3 of everything I regularly buy like pasta, tinned toms multi packs, fajita boxes etc. Then one tomato sauce, spice pots etc.

I shop at Costco and I always have coffee, tea, sugar(s), flour, oats, choc chips, pasta and rice as stock-up pantry items.

Peonyperfection · 15/02/2026 08:21

Thanks everyone so far, I was bracing for negativity, so it’s really refreshing to receive such positive and useful feedback. Tea bag’s is one me for me to add ( they are so expensive now so topping up when on offer is a good idea) and stock. Keep the suggestions coming.
I have a list in Notes on my phone, of itemsI can only find in each store, so I’ll add a list of top ups to remind me when shopping.

My grandkids love baking and I tend to end up making cookies or a cake most weekends so I keep my baking goods well stocked (flour, sugar, icing sugar, cocoa etc). I also keep at least 1 box of teabags and I've got a massive Kilner jar full of coffee pods. That's my nightmare to run out of!

I also keep lots of tins in - coconut milk, tomatoes, beans/pulses.

Westfacing · 15/02/2026 08:36

Mutti tinned tomatoes - they're about three or four times the price of supermarket own brand but so worth it! I look out for when they're on offer

Jars of Bold Beans - black beans, queen chick peas, queen butter beans. Again more expensive than the cheaper tinned varieties but worth it. A previous foodie thread on MN got me hooked on these!

GentleSheep · 15/02/2026 08:44

Rice
Pasta
Cous cous
Tinned tomatoes
Tinned veg and beans
Tinned salmon, tuna, sardines
Tinned soups
Tinned fruit
Various condiments - mayo, mustard, soy sauce, ketchup
Packet noodles
Baked beans
Bottled water
Long life juice and milk
Oils
Nuts
Biscuits, Chocolate (the latter doesn't last long!)
Coffee, tea
Salt, pepper, herbs, sugar
Stock cubes

Buy things when there's a special offer on, just buy a couple of extra items each week so things gradually mount up. Keep things date-labelled and make sure you use the older things first.

PG tips teabags by the 100s decanted into vacuum containers once open.
Dry lentils, chickpeas, beans, basmati rice, ramen, udon, rice noodles, Carnation caramel, spices.
All from my local ethnic supermarket.

When the price is right I stock up on
EV olive oil
coffee beans
and it’s the only way I can afford them!

The rest I just keep 2 of. The supermarket around the corner has good prices, so that’s my store cupboard!

Fishchipspeascupoftea · 15/02/2026 09:10

Spices - I buy them in bulk and decant into larger jars which last me about a year.
Passata
Kidney beans
Mixed beans
Baked beans
Tinned tomatoes
Rice
Pasta.
Often buy on offer or if tesco are doing extra points etc. Yesterday I bought 8 tins of baked beans as I had a coupon I already had 6 but we'll eat them and they won't go to waste.

PistachioTiramisu · 15/02/2026 09:19

Yes, I have a 'larder' in the garage (a shelf really!). I keep stocks of;

Tinned fruit
Tea bags - buy them when on offer
Dijon mustard
Baked beans
Soups
Beef casserole sauce
M&S chunky chicken

I also bring back from France;

Cassegrain tinned vegetables - in particular the ratatouille
Bonne Maman jams
Mayonnaise
Tinned dauphinoise potatoes - surprisingly good
Loads of French butter which I freeze - much cheaper over there and freezes perfectly!

Have you tried Lidl Polpa ? Really high tomato content and 75p a tin.

Adding Olive oil to the list. Rarely on offer but Sainsbury’s have a nice Greek one.

I've been looking up soup recipes using cupboard essentials like coconut milk & red lentils.

Also, been stocking up on health drinks to help regulate my mood & keep my immunity high. Catalyse Life Drinks are a new brand i've found that helps. They have one for Beauty too which is cool

And oat milk from amazon, which works out so much cheaper than the shops.

Not an essential but whilst SpaceNk have 20% off i've been stocking up there too haha

Ooh fajita boxes that’s a good one, had these on Friday. I sometimes get the tortillas and fajita spices etc separately as it can work out cheaper. Lidl Aldi also do their own brand ones. Chocolate lollies from Aldi. Mmmm 😋

I have quite a large walk in pantry so it's always stocked up! I make sure there are multiples of everything wd use often and get them when on offer, my favorite mayonnaise, jars of queen beans and chick peas. Lots of tins of pulses and beans and all types of sugar, flour, plys lots of jars of dried fruits, nuts and seeds. I like being able to decide on a recipe and having the store cupboard ingredients to hand.

DiscoBeat · 15/02/2026 11:01

Freezer, I always have meat from the butcher, frozen cod, peas, sweetcorn, edamame, sourdough (I only ever buy it reduced!), ice cream, frozen ginger, fancy ice cubes with citrus and herbs for my G and T, frozen fruits for smoothies, chicken stock, I always make it from a roast chicken when I get low on it.

DiscoBeat · 15/02/2026 11:03

Oh yes, Rice: white and brown basmati, sushi, long grain, risotto
Pasta: spaghetti, orzo, penne, fusilli, macaroni, fancy (that varies)

EleanorReally · 15/02/2026 11:13
