I'm thinking of putting a timber office in the garden has anyone had any experience of this?

I work from home in our tiny house, but we have a large garden so I've been thinking about buying one of these. I hate the cold, so it would be a disaster if it was freezing in the winter (with heat obviously).

I'd really appreciate it if any of you have one of these timber framed buildings if you'd let me know what they are like, what are the pro's & cons?

Thanks

How lovely

It is worth paying extra to have the walls/floor/ceiling insulated

Are you going to have a log burner?

My BIL has one, its very swish and modern.

My sister has a sort of log cabin thing that slotted together. They put a little bathroom in and insulated the roof. The idea was to use it as an office but now it's a guest room. They are getting another one with a double garage on the ground floor and office upstairs.
They had to have a big concrete platform built to build it on and do all the plumbing and wiring etc to the main house. They had to dig ditches across the garden.

Shitemum, that sounds like a lot of work, I'd hoped it would be easier then that.

I like swish and modern, but suspect those ones are more expensive, I could afford about £4,000.

Put all your money into the insulation or you won't be able to use it for 6 months of the year

Umm it also matters what log thickness you go for

Sitting in our little wooden shed, sorry, office, writing this. We love ours. Had it installed/built just before Christmas and am really pleased with it. Go for it is my opinion. Being wood the building is warm, although as ours is south facing, can be very warm, but we just open the windows. In the cold we boost it up with gas heaters, and once warm, stays warm. I would suggest that you get electricty and phones installed so that your office will be as self sufficient as possible. I am trying to think of a big negative, but can't. The biggest downside for us is that the kids love it in here to!

Ooooh Alaro it sounds lovely. What size did you go for and who did you buy from?

we have one from Lugarde - a dutch company, but we bought it from Taylors Garden Buildings who were v helpful.

It was really easy to put together (just me and DH) and had loads of options you could choose.

So we could use it year round we put a wood burning stove in ours (with a specially insulated chimney)and its fab. On really cold days we have an oil filled radiator on a timer to warm it up before we go down to work.

It does get v hot in summer though as it has a black roof, but it is ok with a few fans.

we have this one www.taylorsgardenbuildings.co.uk/store/customer/product.php?productid=16289
