I need a metal likeabike running/balance bike for my 2 year old

I am looking to buy a metal running/balance bike for my 2 year old's birthday. He already likes playing on a scooter and I want to get him one of these - would probably prefer metal to wooden but happy to take any recommendations that any of you have as there is such a choice nowadays.

have seen Isla bikes, Puky, norco/adams running bikes so if any of you have these or anything else let me know!

Thanks for any ideas you have.

I have a likebike wooden one, and it's great. It's been through DS1 and DS2, and is well knackered, but that's after going (literally) miles and miles.

I know people who have, and are happy with, Isla and Puky bikes. Both brands seem fine. Don't know the others you name.

Puky

FAB

DS uses his all the time - it's ligt enough for me to carry if he gets fed up/ worn out but he whizzes along incredibly fast. Deffo get a Puky!

We have a wooden one, it's absolutely brilliant, about the best buy we've made. It's a "police" bike so she calls it her "nee nah" bike. Not sure who it's made by but we got it from a company who advertised it on Ebay, I don't think it was expensive.

Not sure if metal is better but I would thoroughly recommend a wooden one.

This is the one we have here

That ebay copy is hilarious. Very good. 8 kids. I wonder if she is a mumsnetter.

hockeypuck · 15/06/2008 20:07

She is unhinged!!!! - I love her!

Another vote for PUKY here. We got DD the smallest size for his second birthday and he loves it. MUCH cheaper than the wooden ones £60 inc postage iirc.

CaptainKarvol · 15/06/2008 20:11

If that ebay lady isn't already a mumsnetter, someone should invite her in.

gutted

dd3 would have LOVED this for her 2nd birthday

Have just bought one of these from this Ebay seller, it's fab, and worked out at £33, with delivery from Germany.

wooden bike

hi - everyone

thanks for all your ideas and comments - I think I will either get the Puky or the wooden one and will talk to DH tonight about it. Tried a Puky in a shop today and DS loved it - the wooden one was a bit big but I am sure I can find a smaller one!

I especially loved the ebay lady's reference to hamster benefits having dried up.

LydiaLunch · 16/06/2008 22:40

We have a 'RunBike'. Very light and DD loves it.

Lubyloo · 16/06/2008 22:55

We have this Islabike which is fantastic. DD (2.8) loves it. They are very light and really easy for her to manoeuvre. She whizzes along on it. It's great exercise for me as I have to run alongside her to keep up! When she wants a rest I can easily carry the bike in one hand as it is so light. They are a bit pricey but when your child has outgrown it they can be traded in for the next size up.

pigleto · 17/06/2008 10:13

we have an isla bike too it is fab.

asicsgirl · 17/06/2008 11:50

puky puky puky!

mumtoboys · 17/06/2008 13:30

I'm also looking at a Puky for my tall 3 year old, just over 100cm. Does anyone have the XL and know what height they go up to?

mumtoboys · 17/06/2008 13:58

Also Islabike. When can they use them till?
