Freestanding baths: comfy?

We are redoing our bathroom and I’m loving the idea of this freestanding bath but it is a completely different shape to our normal, big standard bath. Has anyone got one like this? Is it comfy? I’ll try to attach a pic. Thanks!

We’ve got one just like it - very comfy but takes ages to fill!

They are comfy and I love how everything is submerged but, for me as I age, a struggle to get out the thing!

Have similar and love it as can fully submerge. Remember you will need a shelf or side table for the bottles you use regularly if you wash hair rather than just bubble bath.

They don't come in a single size, so comfort really depends on the length/width of the bath and also how big/small you are!

We recently renovated but after extensive reviews and speaking to bathroom suppliers, we didn't get a freestanding one. 1 place said that freestanding are for show home pics, but in practicality, are a PITA! People I know with a freestanding one have regretted it. Some of the issues people mentioned were cleaning the outside and underneath- especially at the back if its near a wall.

If you want a deep soak bath where you can soak up to your neck, I'd get a Japanese style one. We have this in 1 bathroom and our 6ft 7 friend can comfortable sit in it. It does take 300L though. https://www.cabuchon.com/product/nirvana-deep-soaking-tub/

For the bathroom we considered the free standing one, we went with one like the pic and against the wall. So easy to clean and I don't regret not getting a freestanding on.

Stayed in a holiday let where plug hole was under bum. Uncomfortable and kept letting water out

FcukBreastCancer · 10/02/2026 19:59

Oh and difficult to get out of, nowhere to put bottles of shampoo etc

ErrolTheDragon · 10/02/2026 20:06

ITA, freestanding baths in hotels are never good imo. I don’t have any problems getting in and out but the lack of anywhere to put soap and shampoo or towels is deeply impractical. Personally I usually find them too big (I’m 5’1) - feet don’t reach the end to brace against so I’m liable to slip down and cause a sloppy tidal wave.😂

Holdonforsummer · 11/02/2026 06:52

Thanks for all the replies! It would sit next to a big window sill for bottles etc. I am going to spend Valentine’s Day visiting bathroom showrooms to see if I can sit in one and try it out!

They should allow you to sit in one - obviously wear shoes which are easy to take off and put on again.

We have one. It was in the house when we moved in. Oh I was so excited! Everyone admires it. However I will be changing it when we change the bathroom. It is awkward to clean under, hard to put my children in and nowhere to put anything. I miss my old bath which had a tiled shelf running alongside it.
It isn't even the comfiest bath I have had.

Tummytroubles22 · 12/02/2026 08:22

I have one very similar even down to the tap and I absolutely adore it. My bathroom looks like a spa. I have a table next to it for a glass of wine and a candle and use the window sill to sit my body wash etc. my DH doesn’t like it though as his bum knocks the plug hole, I think because his body is longer than mine?

I’ve gone from a shower person to almost daily bather. Bliss!

Holdonforsummer · 12/02/2026 17:33

I’ll report back after my sit-in.

Ps. My kids old enough to bath themselves, thankfully

I have a rolltop one on legs and love it. I have a bath bridge for bottles. Taps and plughole in the middle so you can sit at either end. It's easy to clean - I run a duster around and under it once a week and vacuum when I'm doing the bathroom.

Bluebootsgreenboots · 13/02/2026 07:47

i have one similar to your first picture. I was looking for a deep soak that would hold me fairly upright - also small so it fills quickly.
Mine is higher at one end than the other so I have head support. I love it, it is SO comfortable, and an absolute life saver after a draining day.
if I were to get another I’d buy one even smaller as it’s wider than I need. (I bought it online during a Reno, no time to travel to the other end of the country to try it!). On the bright side, the width means we can fit 2 in there!

Giddykiddy · 13/02/2026 10:09

We've 2 - they look stunning but like others have said take forever to fill so more for show than practicality
