Dreading Centerparcs

Ringthebell26 · 26/01/2026 02:51

Hi

This midterm my family and I am going to Centerparcs with two other families(in laws)

I am a couple of stone overweight and hate how I look. My kids love the pool/slides but I am panicking at the thought of three days in swimwear in front of the rest of the group.

Could I get away with wearing a wetsuit? Maybe that is that ridiculous? Does anyone have any other ideas.

Thank you

I think a wetsuit would look out of place, but a rash vest and swimshorts (you can get some really nice ones) wouldn't. I saw lots of ladies wearing them on a recent adventure holiday.
I'm jealous you're going to centreparcs! Try to focus on the fun you'll have x

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 26/01/2026 02:59

In all honesty it would only draw more attention to you. Take the time to look for a comfortable swimsuit in a colour that suits you and try to remember very few people feel good in a swimsuit at these places.

PollyBell · 26/01/2026 03:01

I would presume they would be enjoying their own holiday wear what you want but feels a bit narcissistic to think they would be on you

It's hardly narcissistic to be a bit body conscious about walking around in yer lycra undercrackers

We’ve just been to centerparcs! I feel similar to you so actually avoided going in the pool. I’ve been many times before and don’t enjoy it anyway as can’t see without my glasses on so never know where I’m going or where my family is! But the recent weight gain definitely was a factor!

I have been in there before though with a swimming skirt (pants with a skirt added to it) and a tankini top, and that made me feel much more comfortable xx

please don’t panic about it though, worst case say you’ve got your period and don’t want to swim and instead go for a coffee at Starbucks! Don’t do something you don’t want to do because you’re worried what others will think. It’s an expensive holiday so you want to enjoy it. The pool isn’t a fun place for everyone xx

What a ridiculous response

Get something like this playsuit. I’ve got one but I can’t remember where from. This is from bloomchic.

Just wear a pair of swim shorts over your costume, wear a vest or tshirt.

But honestly dont worry, no-one cares at CP and most women are to obsessed over how they look to worry or look at others!

Princessofpumpkins · 26/01/2026 16:07

Three things will help: start cutting down now because you will lose a few pounds by half term and that will just make you feel more confident, do a false tan and moisturize skin well before you have to appear in your swimsuit because that will smooth the skin and make it look sleeker, consider if you could stretch the budget to a swimsuit with good tummy control and bust support. All of those things will give a good impression and the final flourish is in your head….. if you can think of yourself as rather desirable you will move and behave in that way…. I suppose what I’m saying is love the skin you’re in and that will shine through. Have a fabulous time with your gorgeous children and love yourself and your life…. And then when you get home, consider having a go at losing 10lbs (because after all you are rather desirable and you’ve just had a fabulous holiday so you’d like to prepare for the next one). That should be a great motivation…… I speak as one who knows this works…

naemates · 26/01/2026 16:08

I bought a short sleeve bikini top like this and wear it over a swim dress that’s a wee bit big and I swear it’s fixed swimming for me. And it’s cute!

Do you need to go in the pool? Sounds like my idea of hell. Can your partner take them instead and you can do something else?

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 26/01/2026 16:15

We went at Christmas and a wet suit would be out of place, but as others have said a T-shirt over a swim dress or tankini, swimsuit etc wouldn’t. Also take coverups for when you’re not swimming, I totally forgot to do that! Then have a really lovely time.

Gingerbread987 · 26/01/2026 16:16

Hey
We were at centre Parcs two weeks ago. Lots of people in swimming shorts and a long sleeve swimsuits. Also a few in full wetsuits, although I suspect that was for religious/cultural reasons.
however I agree with the previous poster - choose something you feel is flattering and enjoy

Strange response OP, why would you think @PollyBell has any "problems going on"?
I actually agree that you shouldn't assume people are looking at you or care what you look like, most people are too focussed on themselves and at CP are mostly trying to stop their DC drowning
Wear whatever makes you feel most comfortable but you would probably stand out more in a wetsuit.

Don't be ridiculous. I didn't wear swimwear once from the age of 11 to 29 because I was so painfully shy and self conscious. Of course that's not narcissistic and you should probably spend some time reading about narcissistic personality disorder and how it presents. Narcissists are far more likely to be parading round the pool enjoying the attention (although that in itself isn't necessarily narcissistic either!)

ByWarmShark · 26/01/2026 16:21

I wear a nice swim dress with built in shorts - that's a lot less revealing than standard swim wear but also doesn't stand out (a wetsuit is fine but the risk is you feel mega self conscious because it's different to everyone else). Much sympathy. I'd also practice going swimming (just on your own) a couple of times before centerparcs as it's one of those things that gets easier the more you do it. Like most things, don't expect people who don't find it hard to understand.

Ginburee · 26/01/2026 16:23

You are certainly not narcissistic, that poster has issues.
Wear a swimsuit with a rash vest or swim shorts.
I am obese and go to CP and there are so many people of all shapes and sizes. Your children will just remember the fun you had with them.
Have a good time.

Delphiniumandlupins · 26/01/2026 16:33

If there are 3 families going are there enough adults to take your kids to the pool while you do something else? You might find yourself becoming default cook though. Try not to stress and enjoy your holiday.

LifeOfAShowgirl13 · 26/01/2026 16:40

It’s always surprising how many people don’t know what narcissistic actually means. You sound quite the opposite OP.

If you’re anything like me, once you get zooming around the rapids having the time of your life, hopefully you won’t be bothered about what others think. I agree swimming shorts or something similar are a good shout in terms of both confidence and practicality! Very envious, bloody love those pools!

anrom1969 · 26/01/2026 16:51

Yes ! For various reasons I choose this type of suit . I also wear a regatta tankini , I’m sorry I can’t link it because I’d probably break the internet and show you everything I’d ever ordered, one thing though , order a size up because nothing worse than trying to get out of a slightly too small suit. Enjoy your time. You’re children will remember you being there with a towel and a snack they won’t give a flying fig what you’re wearing, although I know that it small comfort .

Bobbybobbins · 26/01/2026 16:57

I always wear a swimsuit with shorts cut, longer legs now and much prefer it. A skirt type cut could be good as well. Getting a suit with more structure around the bust can be good for support or one with support round the tummy.
If you can maybe go into a shop and try a few styles and sizes on.

Maiyakat · 26/01/2026 16:59

I'm also self conscious in swimwear, guess that makes me a fellow narcissist 🤣

I have this swimming costume from Decathlon which gives a bit more coverage https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/womens-1-piece-swimsuit-ines-tankini-shorty-heva-ondu-khaki/
