storage for Christmas Decorations

Anyone have any good ideas of bags to store Christmas decorations in? Not just the baubles but I have lots of other decorations that go on shelves etc and they usually just go in the loft in various bags for life. This year I wanted to buy some matching storage bags but not sure which ones. Any ideas?

I bought several large plastic storage boxes. The kind with lids that snap tight with closure. You can stack them in the loft and keep them all together. Otherwise I’d buy some of the large bags that they often sell on market stalls with a big zip at the top and large handles.

I too have clear, plastic crates with lids that click on. I wouldn't use bags! Ensure that the boxes or whatever you buy will fit through your loft hatch though. With clear crates, you can see what is inside, plus I have signs on them.

Years ago I had cardboard boxes in a garage which the rats got into and made a nest amongst the tinsel/baubles and cards. I also found a desiccated, whole rat inside a large decoration we had. Everything that couldn't be washed had to be thrown.

Rats can chew through plastic too.

I also have those plastic boxes with clip on lids. They say they are air tight but I'm not sure. So far everything has survived in the attic in them so fingers crossed.

I have plastic boxes from Ikea (Samla) and they are also labelled so I know what is in the box ie tree decorations or hall garland, a 1st December box and a Christmas eve box (stockings, presents sacks) and also boxes with interlocking lids from years ago.

The main thing is to work out how much stuff you have to store before buying the container. I have 2 boxes for the tree decorations divided into colours. I want it to fit through the loft hatch, stack in a space between the rafters and be light enough to carry downstairs.

I have a couple of these. They're kept in a spare bedroom if we can't be arsed to put them in the loft.

What, chew through plastic 😬

My crates have also been fine in the loft so far. We've recently renovated so I'm hoping the lack of holes etc will help for a few years to come.

'Fraid so. I think with cardboard they can just chew it for something to do/explore. With plastic, it's more effort so they only do it if it's worthwhile eg they can smell food.
I think so anyway.

Hopefully blocking up the holes means you dont need to worry about it.

I keep my decorations in a large clear plastic storage box with a lid. I also have wreath stuff which I keep in a separate box, because sometimes, if I’m feeling crafty, I will make a fresh wreath at other times of the year.

Ditto - clear plastic storage boxes. I had a mouse in one cardboard box once never again!

@CharlotteStreetW1 Ocado were doing the Rex London bags really cheaply. Got some bright red ones and stored the decorations in those. Also bought some bags with flowers on to put all the summer clothes in. Christmas stuff was going in the loft. Husband puts it up there and said boxes were a bit clumsy for him to put up there and he preferred bags with handles. All gone up and out of sight until next Christmas now. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone.

Edited

I use those for the surf gear and sleeping bags/bed rolls etc,

For the Christmas decorations we have a cupboard on the landing and it all goes in there in one cardboard archive box and 2 large shoe/boot boxes. We have a real tree, I store the stand in the garden shed and the little rug in the landing cupboard

I second this..I have about 8 storage boxes.
I also use the large container boxes that arrive each christmas containing Quality St etc..storing smaller decorations.
I always wrap ornaments in Christmas tissue...but then I'm a bit Christmas crazy
