Cost of bespoke jewellery

I am not sure what to expect from my appointment at our local jewellers. I'm after a signet ring that will carry my late husband's family shield (not a crest or the full coat of arms). Any questions I should be prepared for?

I'm also unsure of the price. We will be providing all the gold needed (14k) so if anyone here can assist with the ballpark figure for the skill/work only that'd be great.

I'd like the ring to be quite chunky even though I have size E (UK ring size) little finger. Probably oval shaped with traditional wide shoulders. Deep sealed if possible. And potentially some engraving on the inside but not sure about that.

I think you should set aside up to £1k - for their time and design etc etc. then if it’s less than that you will feel okay about it. Last time I had something made it was £600, now would have been around 1.2k because I didn’t provide the gold, but there were a lot of diamonds to be set etc.

Yes would echo up to £1k. Recently enquired about having a ring made using old jewellery and it came out at £600.

Thank you! That made me pleasant surprised. I was expecting more as the deep seal is quite skilled job. I will report back tomorrow what they actually said.

It depends on how time consuming the job is but it sounds very expensive so i would look around more.

Sometimes it's cheaper to sell gold for scarp rather than have it used in something new as it's a lot of labour to reuse the metal.
