Phil and Teds Pannier Bags

I really can't decide whether to buy these or not as some people say that they are essential and others say that the raincover doesn't fit properly with them on and there are limited ways to attach them without the bumper bar.

Please can I have opinions? My main need for them would be on trips to the supermarket or longer day trips. Can you use them in Newborn / doubles mode?

Thanks

I bought them, but hardly ever used them as they're not very good for shopping - they're quite small bags so difficult for big bits of groceries and they make the pushchair very wide so difficult to get in some doorways. Better used for day trips/longer walks. I also have a SkipHop changing bag which hangs on the handlebars and fits lots of stuff in it, once the baby is sitting up there is more room underneath in the basket.

You can use them in newborn mode, not sure about doubles (but can't see why not).

I have got by with the P&T Bacpac that hangs off the handle. The pannier bags look contrived and bulky to me. In newborn mode you might have to just use a rucksack or pram handle clips (Phil & Teds rarely tip if you keep child in the front seat). Once baby is sitting up you can pack the parcel tray quite full until their legs get longer.

when i had my p&t i found them a god send. they can fit loads in them so great for days out & shopping. they just velcro onto the side of the frame so can be used in any mode.

I love mine - couldn't manage without them. Use them for shopping all the time. I find the parcel tray useless for heavy things - mine scraps along the ground with anything heavy in - it's an older E3 though, don't know if the newer models are better? They do make the buggy quite wide but if you're using them for shopping you could always store them underneath and attach them at the checkout.

I'm using mine in newborn mode at the moment. It does make the parcel tray reasonably inaccessible but I only keep the raincover, waterproofs and changing bag in mine so don't need to be constantly diving in and out.

I'm guessing in doubles mode they will obscure view of toddler in the back but perhaps someone else will know for sure.

I don't find the raincover particularly a problem but then I don't think it's that user friendly anyway.
