newborn in phil n teds question - do I need a cocoon and if not do I strap the baby in?

I didn't buy a cocoon for the imminient arrival as the lady in the shop said the baby might get too hot and they don't last that long, but I'm worried about the little one not having enough head support and getting bounced around. What do people think, do I need a cocoon for the support or just use blankets? Do I strap the baby in?

Thanks.

I bought a cocoon and didn't use it. I think you could wrap a blanket round like a cocoon iykwim or use one of the sheepskin liner things as that will keep them still. The actual area that they lie in is not that wide so they don't tend to rattle too much.

Great pram though!!

Thanks Lulalullabye, I'm guessing you didn't need to strap yours in then?

Cocoon would be too hot in summer, IMO. You can strap them in, but there really is no need. I dont find that ds2 moves very much at all.

I nearly didn't buy one for my 4 week old but changed my mind at the last minute and I'm sooo glad that I did. I was concerned about hot weather too but you can push the top cover back and it is quite airy even today. It is so easy to slide the cocoon in and out without waking her. Also, we've found that she sleeps better in the cocoon than her pram during the day and it fits nicely on the kitchen worksurface out of reach of her 19 month old brother.

If you're worried about head support just use the one out of your carseat.

I used a coseytoes at the bottom of the cocoon section and added cotton blankets and a sheepskin for DS2, slightly curved in around the head section for comfort (born in May).
Didnt strap him in, newborns dont move around much IME.

Thanks everyone. Ledodgy, that is a good idea about the car seat head support. I'm swayed by being able to stash the baby out of big bro's way but think I'm going to try without to start with, and if it doesn't seem great then I'll get one online. At least things tend to come quite quickly when you order online!

Buy a sleeping bag but not a cocoon - it will give the extra padding you need and you can zip off the top layer. You will still be using it as a cosy toes in the winter.

I got so little use from my cocoon.

My SIL had a cocoon and the baby had outgrown it at 4 months old. I agree that a cosytoes type thing would be a better idea and last longer.
