Help me find the perfect bonfire scented candle!

Getting a bit overwhelmed by choice. Also a lot of the “smoke” scented candles seem to have lots of other scents in too, but I really just want something that smells exactly how your coat or jumper would smell if you’d been sitting next to a bonfire for an hour.

Bonus points if it’s as natural as possible!

White company Fireside - it is a bit incense but I love it.

I buy it every year.

NecklessMumster · 13/11/2025 11:56

Embers - St Eval is nice

Feu De Bois by Diptique is the GOAT.

Does anyone have a recco for a perfume that smells of woodsmoke though?

By the fireplace! I love it, reminds me of toaster marshmallows by a log fire.

By the fireplace is smoky but with a bit of vanilla so it’s a touch sweeter

I love BTF. I also have a perfume called Embers by Rouge Bunny Rouge (discontinued) and Comme De Garcons Kyoto are smoky but probably more incense than straight up smoke.

YellowStockings · 13/11/2025 21:23

So many good recommendations, thank you! I really want to try the perfume now too.

Trying to figure out if our budget can really stretch to the Diptique… for now might have to try the Muji and the St Eval! We’re actually going to Cornwall soon so wondering if they’ll be stocked in gift shops as they’re a Cornish brand I think?

My question too!
I love smoke and incense but I don’t love vanilla or sweet scents.
Serge Lutens Fille en Aiguilles is beautiful and smoky but I think it’s been discontinued.

Jamesblonde2 · 13/11/2025 21:46

Diddly Squat Farm sold an amazing one last year.

Sorry for the huge link 😬. Log Fires by Jo Loves.

I bought from this seller (very small) on Etsy after seeing her recommended a few times, and actually bought her 'Bonfire Night' candle. It's note are 'cedarwood' and 'smoke'

I only bought one at first, as I wasn't sure, but I've just placed a larger order for four of her candles - which also netted me 20% off😍

All 100% soy wax and she confirmed to me her candles are also paraben free. Which makes her candles better quality and better for the environment than many big sellers who use paraffin wax.

That oil is called Cedar and Smoke from Candle Shack online.
if you’re interested they have great tutorials so you can make your own! (I’m a candle maker- I recognised the descriptions on Etsy immediately)

evtheria · 13/11/2025 21:49

@trainedopossumYes, often the ‘smoky, log fire’ perfumes have a sweet note added in. I own the much mentioned By the Fireplace, which is lovely in its own right but it is definitely sweet. At this point I genuinely think it might be worth just buying a small log, burning the end of it and wafting it about oneself to get that true fragrance right before heading out for the day 😂

trainedopossum · 13/11/2025 23:42

evtheria sounds great, I’m onboard 👍
I love smoky foods too, and I used to be a smoker, I can’t get enough!

St Eval.are in lots of gift shops in Cornwall! They sell a huge range in The Duchy of Cornwall Nursery in Lostwithiel.or in Brocante in St Ives and Fowey. You can also buy them on Amazon!

The Muji one has no throw. I burned two at once a few nights ago and it smelt of nothing!

evtheria · 13/11/2025 07:52

Muji used to do a log fire one, maybe still do. That has been the most true fire for me.

They still do. I just bought one. I buy one every winter. It’s my absolute favourite smell.

Franjipanl8r · 14/11/2025 06:00

What an eye opening thread, I can see now why my neighbours don’t care they’re filling my children’s bedrooms with smoke from their wood burner every evening - maybe they think we actually like the smell!!

Happy buying it tbh! Would rather support independent small sellers than big companies. If I buy from Candle Shack I’d be supporting a multi million pound business, buying from her supports a small business 😊

BlissfullyBlue · 14/11/2025 08:24

If you are looking for a log fire perfume, then Replica By the Fireside is completely gorgeous.

Apparently Beauty Pie do one. I've hated every Beauty Pie candle I've ever bought though so don't want to risk it!

She will be getting the oil from candle shack to use in her candles

Yes, but she'll also be making a profit for herself! And, like I said, at least this way I am supporting her grow her business. I can afford to - so why not? 😊

Edit: Just to add. It's £15 for a 50hr burn time candle. It's not exactly blowing anyones budget, is it? 😀

Plus still works out cheaper than me doing the safety testing, multiple batch pours and then the risk of tunnelling, over-wicking, poor scent throw, sooting, uneven melt pool etc (I did my reading!).

Fair enough- just a suggestion about a new hobby!!

Miller Harris La Fumee is my absolute all time favourite perfume. I only wear it in autumn and winter, I’m eeking out my last bottle as it’s been discontinued.
