Looking for a present for a little boy. He will be 8 months when I buy it, but thinking for when a tad older.

Have found these two so far:

Metal push Fire Engine

Small Wheelybug - various designs available

Tractor and trailer

A different tractor and trailer

Or any other ideas around this price range?

Wheelybugs are fantastic (well I had to say that !). Seriously though - dd had hers at 1 and i've just put it away at just over 3 as she was getting too big for it. Definitely the best ride on toy ever !

cazzybabs · 07/06/2008 17:41

wheelybug ... but I think it is best on wooden floors (not carpet).

Hulababy · 07/06/2008 17:42

Friends have laminate flooring at current house.

Just asked 6yo boy from next door and he said the fire engine, but maybe he is think type of thing he'd like now.

It is for my godson's christening present.

Def wheelybug if they have laminate.

sophiewd · 07/06/2008 17:45

Fire engine or tractor and trailer.

misdee · 07/06/2008 17:46

wheelybug.

uptomyeyes · 07/06/2008 17:52

Wheelybug - but I would suggest getting the large one.He won't be able to ride on it for a while but he will be able to push it when learning to walk (possibly best on carpet at this point so it doesn't run away with him) and then still have a few years of riding it. our Big Wheely Moo is routinely used by older children up to about 6yo - in fact 10yo have scooted across our floors on it and it lives to tell the tale.

Hulababy · 07/06/2008 17:52

Big wheelybug is much dearer I think though.

HHmm but that fire engine is gorgeous.....

Hulababy · 07/06/2008 17:55

Found the large Wheelybug for £55 inc P&P. Is that a good price?

www.amazon.co.uk/Galt-America-Tiny-Trike/dp/B00009W9JZ Galt tiny trike

DS rode around on this inside and outside (can get good speed going - so would whizz down hills) from about 1 - 2.5 years (he's big). It's simple and he used to ride it along to the park very quickly and easily (about 10-15mins away).

My brother had same thing and loved it 30 years ago - a real classic

nooonit · 07/06/2008 17:56

If it's any help, our ladybird wheelybug (age 1+ size) is currently being ridden by DD1 (nearly 4!)

Brilliant toy - well worth the money!

Kindersurprise · 07/06/2008 17:57

We had a wheelybug that just sat in the garage, DS did not even look at it. He absolutely LOVES his tractor and trailer and still whizzes about on it now at almost 4yo.

We have a Rollytoy one, they are great quality. You can also get a fire engine one with a hose. Will look and see if I can find it.

Kindersurprise · 07/06/2008 18:02

Oh, sorry, the fire engine one is for over 3yo.

jazzandh · 07/06/2008 18:03

We also had one of these trike

Brilliant for Mum when too small to pedal, but DS loves pedalling around on this now by himself (3.5)

These are very popular where we live - little ones easy to strap in and push about in the summer.

Hulababy · 07/06/2008 18:04

Think they already have a bike that was once his sisters.

quickdrawmcgraw · 07/06/2008 18:06

I gave my niece the fire engine and she loved it but it's hard to steer. Wheelybug better i think

accessorizequeen · 07/06/2008 20:02

As a present, I'd get the wheelybug as it's smaller and cuter than the others For an 8 month old, def. the small size, my 4.6 year old is still fine on it and I can't see that my 18 months old could ride the bigger version. I must say though, that the galt trike always appealed to me as a lovely ride-on and I would still consider buying one for next dc's!

Hulababy · 08/06/2008 20:18

Thanks all.

Swaying towards the small Wheelybug at moment.

Scuttlebug?

Hulababy · 12/06/2008 22:02

Don't know what the scuttlebug is.

OP posts:
Hulababy · 12/06/2008 22:04

Found it thanks - it is a bike though. Trying to avoid a bike type toy, has one wthat was his sisters I believe

The big wheelybug looks good.
