Recommend coat for Iceland trip in November

We are going to Iceland in November for a week. Could anyone recommend a warm, waterproof coat that you have used and loved in very cold conditions. How much should one spend? Thanks so much.

When we went for New Year's we all bought 2nd hand ski jackets from vinted. Google the jacket to check the waterproof rating though because some people label them as ski jackets or waterproof when they actually arent. You will also need waterproof trousers and boots and lots of layers.

Ski jackets will sometimes have a skirt inside but should have a pocket in the sleeve round about the cuff or elbow or inside the front panel for lift passes.

Thank you, this is good advice. We went to Cotswold Outdoor yesterday and they advised layers, thermal lined trousers and waterproof gore tex jacket rather than a puffy coat. Turning out to be an expensive trip! I hadn't thought about ski jackets but they would be ideal.

Haha yes when we went I was surprised how cheap the flights and accomodation was but then the clothing started making it expensive. But we got most things on Vinted then sold them again when we got back so actually didn't work out that expensive in the end.

Do you have a Trespass or Go Outdoors near you ? Trespass is very reasonable.

If you already have a decent waterproof coat, just use that. If you don't have a good one, surely you'd get a lot of future use out of it in the UK after the holiday, so I'd see it as a general investment, not a cost of the trip. If you insulate with layers and use a non-padded outer layer, it is much more versatile.

I live in Iceland and wouldn't get anything less than 10,000 water column rating with taped seams. Often 'waterproof' coats are only 5,000 or so, which is not good enough in my experience. I just got this to replace my old Didriksons which was starting to give up the ghost and it seems good: https://pinewood.eu/en-eu/products/pinewood-rain-parka-w-s-earth-plum-3250-en

It's just an example, definitely you don't need it to be that expensive, but I will wear this almost every day throughout the year from the dead of winter (with a wool jumper underneath) to cool or rainy summer days (with no insulating layers).

That looks brilliant and just the ticket! A good length and shape in the waist! My waterproof otter went on a trip with my daughter recently and didn’t come back so I need to replace it anyway. Thank you so much.
